Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.3

Probably a stupid question but is there any way to play DV mkvs on C8 without external player? I bought a Shield a couple weeks ago but returned because colors weren't as vivid and image overall quite softer on 4k and SDR content. I know I can remux myself from ISOs to MP4s but MKVs are easily acce...

Re: Re:

Ok, but the Shield is not capable of displaying p7 properly (or any other format than p5), so that comparison between the Shield and the x700 cannot be done (well it wouldn't mean anything). Also, are you saying that MEL would look identical in player-led and tv-led ? U would have to do x700 fel LL...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

There's a third party refresh rate app that you can load on the Shield that'll let you manually set the refresh rate at any time through a hot key. It's not ideal, but if you know whether a shows 24 or 23.976, you can change it on the fly. thanks, I took a look at that, jumped through a few hoops a...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

atv4K is indeed really good, if it had 24fps support and more profiles then 5 DV, it would win it all easy imo The ATV4K does seem to be frustratingly close to being a killer device. I would add passthrough of hi-res audio to the wishlist so that mkv players don't have to decode to PCM, but for Net...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Hi Shawnc22, Like MastaG I was hoping for a 1:1 experience paradise, when I read a few weeks ago that MKV + DV was live. But I understand (thanks to you + contributors) that YTD it remains a lossy process, even using 1.15.4. I had in mind to convert the ISOs I have : MakeMKV + playback via Shield P...

Thank you. For testing purposes, can one force a switch between TV-led and Player-led DV on the Shield?
Only if you have a device to spoof edid like an hdfury.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Ok, just watched this video from Vincent explaining the difference between TV-led and Player-led DV so I can see where TV-led would be the better option... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_a77zJTrO4 Also, I found the following quotes on the nVidia forums: The Shield supports both and will do TV-le...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Hi, Can someone elaborate on yusesope´s comment copied below. Would (and how) DV streaming providers (NF, Apple) have to deal with the lack of EL in a DV profile 5 and potential « issues » such as chromatic aberrations. Or are those issues a side effect of yusesope method for creating a single trac...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

Over a year later and I still see tons of issues with DV playback on Shield and tons of hoops to get it to run. While the X700 still plays UHD rips and tsmuxer muxed to .TS, for less money. Any smart TV has plex/kodi/dlna apps... I just don't see the appeal for spending $200 on a device that requir...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.3

A bit confused with the replies above. I'm having the same issue as bostoneddie. Dolby Vision only plays on a spiderman far from home rip if I use AC3. Trying to use atmos gives me a direct playback error (which then transcodes the audio and reverts to regular hdr). This is confirmed a problem with...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

So which players are capable of playing FEL remuxes from network sources (Plex/Emby/SMB), e.g. the full deal retaining the 12bit 4000nits final picture like when playing the original disc? e.g. remuxed into a TS or MKV container so I can add a high def audio track? From network? The oppo and that's...

Re: Random skip during playback of some rips

As no read errors were reported during ripping, my question is: what causes a ripped movie sans any read errors during copy to have such issues that aren't related to bandwidth/streaming problems? Can an error still be introduced during rip even though the software doesn't report issues? Sure, I've...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Very interesting, I would like to know where you learnt this since the public Dolby vision paper doesn't really make mention of this at all. In fact, while it does mention FEL it doesn't actually describe what FEL means. But it only lists profile 7 as 1:1/4 (4:2:0.) and makes no mention of either 1...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.3

Thanks guys. To clarify one point: I'm using the Shield directly to the C9 and then optical out to a 5.1 system in our living room. For our "true" home theater I have a non-DV display so it doesn't matter, and I don't have to transcode the audio there bc I'm using a receiver. Just trying ...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.3

It honestly doesn't matter if the Nvidia DV decoder crashes during transcoding. If any part of the playback stream (audio, video, or even pgs subtitles) has to be transcoded, then all parts of the stream will be transcoded. Since your 4k video ends up having to be transcoded because of the audio st...
