I've never heard of country/source of the drive mattering for firmware.

What is the Mfg/model of the USB drive you purchased, as sold retail? What was on the box? Are you sure it was a BU40N drive internally?

Do you have 2 x USB or 1 x USB + 1 x power connections to the drive? 4K/UHD ...

It's the same firmware. He just used the one in the original MakeMKV firmware pack. Mine are named better for easier reading as it's much easier to read DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK than HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934

I used the enc command and flashed the BD-RE BU40N into 1.03 using this command ./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/22DCDDE3' -f /tmp/sdf.bin rawflash enc -i /tmp/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin

Yeah you’re right.
I flashed the driver with Terminal (macOS) successfully but the firmware didn’t update. Doh, I have a newer version (1.18.2) makeMKV.
Any idea when I can flash it? No rush.
