I hadn't even considered that, as the disc was part of a very nice box-set that was gifted to me. There isn't anything else about the set that made me question its authenticity but it does indeed seem odd that the disc is unencrypted, now that you mention it.

I make decrypted backups of discs with MakeMKV all the time. I then create .mkv files from these backups. Same here. My bad, by "digital copy" I meant that I created a "backup" in MakeMKV of the entire disc. Let me rewind and restate the issue I'm encountering and add some additional information that has come to light. I can, without encountering any errors, perform a "Backup" of the ...
