Received my 43888 today and found it also has a BU40N inside with the 1.05 firmware. Used the SDFtool to flash the 1.03 firmware and it's worked with no hassles on four different UHD discs so far. The BU40N hardware is definitely not a dealbreaker!

Just received a 43888 with a BU40N drive as well. Used the SDFtool to flash the DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin firmware straightaway and it successfully accessed a 4K UHD disc that my BP50BN40 (flashed to BP60NB10, per guidance) refused to do.
