Re: Kinda complicated?
A lot of the Verbatim slim-line drives available on eBay are still a Pioneer BDR-UD03 or BDR-UD04. The former can be flashed to the latter, which is usable for UHD-ripping in MakeMKV. There are still (as of right now) listings for used Verbatim slim-lines for as low at $30. It may be worth taking a ...

Re: All Pioneer drives will be LibreDrive supported
It's 100% ... relevant for people considering paying a lot extra for the even rarer pre-2022-firmware Pioneer drives. If it's going to be on the order of months, then people may want to buy or (stick with already purchased) post-2022 firmware drives and wait for the "fix". If it's going t...

Re: All Pioneer drives will be LibreDrive supported
So, like, when? No ETA. Just sometime in the future. Fair enough, but if anyone has an idea on what scale of "future" we're thinking about, it would be helpful. Days, weeks, months, years. I don't think anyone is looking for promises, but it would help with purchasing decisions for a lot ...

Re: Comparing Pioneer UHD Models
if a 13 model is worth the price for functionality and not just rarity. What do these more expensive models have that will actually effect my experience as a regular user versus sticking with the 12's I already purchased. Well, it's not quite as simple. The 12 you have is a 2 12, not an S 12. And t...

DNS expired
Well, the DNS for the site seems to have expired. I don't know who all will see this, since the expiry seems to have propagated to most of the internet now. You have to edit your hosts manually to get it to work.
I'm happy to pay the registration fee if that'll help. :p

I'd been hoping beyond hope they had a BDR-X13E-X, but no such luck.

Re: All Pioneer drives will be LibreDrive supported
Do you people even realize that drives can be fixed when they age? Only for the most basic issues. The most concerning part is the blue laser since it, unlike a red burn laser, has a fixed life. The laser and focusing is intrinsic into the optical pickup unit. The optical pickup unit for most (read...

Re: LG flashed to LibreDrive no longer recognize BluRay - Orig. Firmware lost
but wahat about those M-DISC then? do we get nowhere near the 1000-year disc-mark then with those? M-Discs are complicated by the fact that not all M-Discs are M-Discs. For actual M-Discs, yes, there is good evidence their doped SiO2 recording layer could be stable for centuries. That said, the pol...

Re: LG flashed to LibreDrive no longer recognize BluRay - Orig. Firmware lost
besides media quality and UHD capability, is there a difference if i would burn a Bluray Disc with a Pioneer or with an LG say WH16NS58DUP> A lot does depend on media as you go on to surmise, but yes, Pioneers are generally the undisputed burn quality champions. Longevity is a complex topic, and ev...

Re: All Pioneer drives will be LibreDrive supported
Yeah, the updated firmware support is to enable LibreDrive and UHD support. Are you SURE about that? The announcement just says LibreDrive, it is silent about UHD. Pioneer's 211/212/213s don't recognize UHD without a firmware upgrade. Do you have outside knowledge that the announced capability incl...

Re: LG flashed to LibreDrive no longer recognize BluRay - Orig. Firmware lost
the WH16NS60 link you shared amounts after shipping and taxes to around 170 euro, which i consider excessive at the moment. Wow. Shipping must be crazy. I got it for about $100CAD, shipped. NS55 flashed to NS60 That's a reasonable drive. As far as I can tell, an NS55 is basically identical to an NS...

Re: LG flashed to LibreDrive no longer recognize BluRay - Orig. Firmware lost
what do you think of such an offer like this https://www.ebay.it/itm/156810626913?_t ... p_homepage It's a good drive. Essentially the same hardware as a BDR-S12EBK. However it doesn't have UHD firmware. It should work with MakeMKD for non-UHD discs. If the date on the photo is accurate, then it sh...

Re: Best programs for editing subtitles?
Some players (Roku for example) don't support Blu-Ray's raster subtitle format. I use MKV Subtitle Convertor to OCR them into text formats that my Roku does support. It is a little bit of a process to set up, as you need to also install Tesseract OCR and download language files for each language you...

Re: All Pioneer drives will be LibreDrive supported
shame on pioneer for that ultra-nazi 2023 encrypted firmware scandal! You have to realize as long as Pioneer was a member of the Blu-Ray Disc Association they had rules they had to follow to be compliant or they’d lose their licensing. And the BDA had more content provider members than hardware pro...
