BU40N with 1.03 firmware (reflashed from 1.05, which was original)
Problem: Linux cannot read the disc and keeps skipping, restarting, retrying. But windows 11 can read it with same drive , no problems.
Is this because of the ...

Re: What is the absolute best firmware for the BD-RE BU40N Drive?
Marty?
Bought your 1.03 version a while ago when I was using mainly Windows 11. Now I am using Ubuntu as main, any need to switch to 1.00 for by BU40N slim?
Thank you in advance.

Ubuntu VLC use MakeMKV
The instructions in here are to vague. I really have no clue where to execute the command to create an symbolic link.
I do not care if I have double the same files, I just need it to work.

DVD drive for DVD's
Hello people,
Just wanted to say, if you have a DVD writer / reader around and lots of DVDs. Try to use a normal DVD writer / reader with MakeMKV instead of your more expensive Libre drive Bluray writer / reader. More economic.
I have a SE-208 from Saumsung lying around and tried with a B movie ...

Re: LG BU40N firmware 1.05
Any cheaper usb 3.x cable will work. No need to buy an expensive one. It happened only once, maybe it was not inserted correctly. And the 2ndtime it was ok.
Dont buy any usb 2.0. Price difference betweeen 2.0 and 3.x is very low.

Re: Play M2TS / play ripped movie VLC 32 bit
Where are the decoders? I tried one time without the MakeMKV option "Decrypt video files" and VLC could not play them.
But if I rip with the option "Decrypt video files" enabled, then VLC can play them
Above I enabled in MAKEMKV, the integration with VLC 32 bit.

Play M2TS / play ripped movie VLC 32 bit
(Please pin this one on top in forum, thank you)
In case people do not know, playing the movies ripped is actually very easy in VLC.
- Download only the VLC 32 bit, 64 bit won't work (I have not tried extensively to configure that)
- After installing VLC 32 bit, re-start or open MakeMKV

Re: Blu-ray rip convert into iso (imgburn)
ISO has it's benefits:
- 1 file only
- dvd / bluray menu intact
- movie files sometimes cut into a billion pieces and you can hunt down the order of things
DVD is by default ripped as iso, perfect.
Bluray not. It just creates the folders and files.
So I use IMGBurn to re-create MakeMKV output as ...

Thank you also,
I also bought the license. My old laptop will be reformatted back to factory state, that means I can easily register my other copy, on my new laptop with just the key.
That is nice and easy for us honest consumers.

I did not read MakeMKV posts about this, but did you peeps know that you can convert the bluray ripped files right back into a iso file again? Pity MakeMKV does not do this automatically at ripping, as with DVD. Bluray always get saved a folders and files on the computer.

Re: 50% success rate with older drive
See if you can get a drive mentioned in these forums. It does help to have a drive that uses Libremode. That means you have to flash it.
Another way, slower, is to use a program that records screen and audio, those exist as well. I don't recommend that way. Before I used Makemkv I used such program ...
