I guess I'm a tad confused; I thought you suggested getting a Pioneer because it has better error correction, but then said I wouldn't have any better luck with a Pioneer drive?

Definitely already tried washing it as suggested with no improvement. Shame on me for not taking better care of it.
The disc in question is unwatchable on a regular player so physical defects are undoubtedly the issue.
I still might pick up a Pioneer drive as a last backup . I'll have to go back ...

Another bit of information that leads me to conclude the 1.5A supply with the UGREEN adapter was the culprit, I *failed* to rip one 4K disc on two different drives, but when I changed the power supply on the new one, the errors returned for that disc on each device started matching.
