I never had this issue but I once had a disc that never finished scanning with increasing ETA but I could open it manually and I then just entered the chapters of interest and everything went smoothly from there. You could try it out if that works for you.

Some additional information that might be of importance but didn't mention before is that the Bluray drive is using LibreDrive mode while the other drive is not.
