Looks to me that a G4 imac just uses a regular optical drive with the faceplate taken off... nothing special... flash an LG, take off the faceplate.
then, just use a "USB C to SATA Adapter" to go from the mac mini to the uhd drive.

If you look on amazon for a Verbatim 43888, the one that takes a while to ship, its a BDR-UD04 inside. Mine just arrived and its running FW 1.14 and works out of the box with no flashing.
