Re: Failed read on brand new disc?

Thank you for this.

How do I find that code? I'm on a mac, I am happy to post it but will need to know where to look.

I promise, I did clean the discs very well, every time I tried to run them. There are several that just will NOT go.

I do appreciate your help thank you!

Re: Failed burn on brand new disc?

Thank you. It is a screenshot and not from a website. It is a .png, I have tried uploading it multiple times, it gives a green bar and a green check-mark, but still does not show up. I will try one more time, but I will also describe it in case it does not work. It is a black box with a bright red s...

Re: Downsizing the files from MKV?

Thank you for the reply, but I do not understand a word of this comment. I was asking whether any of these pre-sets in the image I've posted will do a good enough job to make the files smaller but still retain the quality of the video. That's why I posted the image, because I don't know what pre-set...

Re: Failed burn on brand new disc?

I have certainly cleaned them, that was the first thing I tried. There are certain files that will not be recognised to rip into digital version. It looks like the original image didn't load when I posted the image, I will add an image description shortly because it will not let me add the image for...

Failed read on brand new disc?

I have been digitising my library as I said in another post. 99.999% of the time, this programme manages to burn everything. But there have been a handful of dvds that have given me this failure. (I'm on a Mac if it makes any difference). I can see no damage to the discs, they were brand new from a ...

Re: Downsizing the files from MKV?

In handbrake, Video tab, Quality, Constant Quality, adjust it until 20 shows up for the RF. It sets the quality that the encoder uses to convert the video. If you select different presets, it changes the quality to match, but most of the older presets set 20 or 22. Ah, thank you, I did find the RF....

Re: Downsizing the files from MKV?

DVD disks are already limited in their quality; using an RF setting around 20 is pretty much the best you can manage. How much this will shrink things depends on your source... For anime, I typically see a reduction to about 15-20% of original size, non-anime can be as much as 50% of original. A lo...

Downsizing the files from MKV?

Hi folks, LOVE this software. But it does have a pretty high output (I'm sure because it's good quality) for the rips I'm making. I've just done the Leverage series and each episode is taking up around 2GB each. I've managed to fill up my 5TB hard drive pretty quickly with only a few films and shows...

Re: Burnt subtitles?

Thanks for the reply. I'm running Version 1.10.2 (2025090600) on mac, and I do not see any options to adjust this. When I put the files into the handbrake, it normally recognises al the different language options for subs, but it's just giving a 0 English, which I've never seen before. I don't know ...

Re: Burnt subtitles?

Hmmmm I must be doing something wrong? I rip them though MKV and then opened up handbrake, went to the subs, and it does list language, but only English-- which is fine, but I know this disc has multiple languages. I selected it. tried to process it and it didn't recognise the sub at all. Says 0: En...

Re: Burnt subtitles?

That are a number of things that can affect subtitles. One is that DVD subtitles are different than Bluray subtitles. You cannot include BD subtitles in MP4 files, for example, but there is an extension to allow DVD subtitles in them. To do BD subtitles, you MUST use MKV files and a compatible play...

Burnt subtitles?

Hi folks, I'm working off a mac, and the vast majority of dvds I've burnt with MakemKV automatically do subs, which is ideal because I am deaf, I need them. I just tried to digitise my copy of Dr Strangelove. It definitely has subs on the dvd so I don't know why it's not doing it here. It did not em...

Re: What is the deal with the KEY?

I DEMAND that a key that actually works be posted in this thread ASAP. Several months ago I was ripping TV shows to put on Plex and just found out that I accidentally ripped one episode twice with one copy of the episode mislabled as the episode I misssed. People really do shock me sometimes. You g...

Re: Payment site down?

Who knows. Being that I ripped a bunch of my library so I could watch it on my home server, I thought that if the public key was expired, then a purchased key would be effective. Considering how much I used MakeMkv, I thought it was worth the $60 USD to continue using. So I submitted payment. I did...

Thank you mate. I will try to do this and see if it resolves. If not, I'll reply here again. Cheers!

Edit - that seems to have done it. Thank you kindly! :D
