Re: Judder/studder in blu ray rips
An easier way would be to test this by remuxing to m2ts. He said in his original post that converting to m2ts fixes the problem, and that converting back to mkv causes the problem to recur. Also, I've read somewhere that 50 Mbit/s is fine for the LIVE so I doubt it's due to peaks. I'm thinking (bas...

Re: White Men Can't Jump BD+ code error
That file is 32 MB, and exceeds my e-mail attachment limit.
Is there an alternative way to deal with this?

Re: Judder/studder in blu ray rips
Okay, so I downloaded your Potter.mkv clip. For what it's worth, it plays smoothly on my Mac using Plex, no stuttering. Bit rates vary from moment to moment between around 14 Mb/sec up to the mid 20s Mb/sec. I used HandBrake to encode your clip with my fast conversion settings and CQ factor 21. The ...

Re: Judder/studder in blu ray rips
It seems likely that the stuttering is due to the bit rate exceeding that which your WDtv live can handle. The bit rate varies from scene to scene depending on how difficult the scene is to encode/decode efficiently. One clue is the lightning flashing, which will cause the bit rate to spike briefly ...

White Men Can't Jump BD+ code error
Can't get White Men Can't Jump blu-ray to rip. Doesn't matter whether I try a full disc backup or a regular mkv rip. MakeMKV v1.8.0 darwin(x86-release) started Optical drive "BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH14NS40 1.00" opened in DASPI v1.3 mode. Backing up disc into folder "/Volumes/Jupiter/d...

Re: Pioneer BDR-206DBK Optical Drive - Anyone else use it?
After using the new drive (LG WH14NS40) for a couple months, I have an update. It's been great so far. In September I reported that it rips Blu-ray discs at up to 8.0X with MakeMKV. It turns out that it can, with some discs, rip even faster than that. While the overall speed varies from disc to disc...

Re: How to make the output filesize for a BR smaller
You seem to have missed the fact that quite a few people have done comparisons (myself included) on various movies, and DO notice the difference. You noticed a difference in my media files? You'll have to forgive me for doubting you. As to "quite a few people..." they don't seem to be par...

Re: How to make the output filesize for a BR smaller
I'm not going to waste my time reading your long, inconsistent accounts any more. My accounts are not inconsistent. When I was testing, trying to nail down good settings, I used key/difficult scenes from Blade Runner, WALL-E, Avatar, and a couple others. I didn't have to watch 10+ hours of movies a...

Re: How to make the output filesize for a BR smaller
I'm responding this time because a couple of points have been raised that haven't already been addressed. False conclusion. I'm not giving up "superior video quality" for file size -- as explained (extensively) in my previous post. Yeah, and it's still doubtful. There's always a trade-off....

Re: How to make the output filesize for a BR smaller
Movies that have no dark scenes; no large, fast-moving objects, and no very fine details (like intricate designs or or lots of small print) can usually be encoded to a smaller size without any noticeable loss of quality. But for movies that do have those elements, anyone who watches carefully can t...

Re: How to make the output filesize for a BR smaller
Really? You're objecting to reducing file size because of "electricity and time?" Really? You're objecting to keeping superior video quality because of "file size"? False conclusion. I'm not giving up "superior video quality" for file size -- as explained (extensively)...

Re: How to make the output filesize for a BR smaller
Of course it makes a difference since hard disk space is getting cheaper all the time (now that the flood damage is fixed). Conversion also takes a significant amount of electricity and time. Really? You're objecting to reducing file size because of "electricity and time?" The electricity...

Re: USB 3.0 External BluRay ROM Rip Speeds
Moving that drive to a USB 3.0 enclosure won't help.

Re: How to make the output filesize for a BR smaller
Whats the sense of having high def content if you compress it down to 1/5th of its size. You have to loose a significant amount of quality when you do that. Nope. Don't knock it until you try it. Disc space savings are quite significant, and the output (with the right settings) is usually not notic...
