I think the end problem might have been something else, which was caused by me a week prior. I upgraded my server ubuntu, from like 16.04 to 24.04 and in doing so I think it messed up the codecs causing the black screen on playback. I deleted the codecs and reinstalled and things turned out ok since.

No replies yet, I resorted to using Handbrake, maybe it's just me but I just feel like something must be missing when I don't have a 2-5gb .mkv file verses some 800Mb MP4 created by handbrake. But if anyone has a thought on why a movie like that would rip, and on playback through Plex only has audio...

I have ripped over 2000 dvd movies and love the program, however this is a first for me. VLC will play the movie, but ripping, all I seem to get is audio and no video.
