In my opinion, they’re either reverse-engineering it or developed it themselves. But DVDFab has already been known to use a repackaged version of makemkv, so anything is possible.

If I know correctly, Verbatim 43890 has a Pioneer BDR-UD03, not Hitachi-LG BU40N.
43890 is a very old model.
