Thanks, Cooper. I think it’s all about finding a good tradeoff. Unless you’re dealing with recent formats like UHD, it might be a solid choice to rip with MakeMKV and then compress with HandBrake. It was my preferred player since it would quickly skip back and forward on the video track, not to mention the smoothless frame by frame playback.

Back to my question, I strongly suspect that many people out there are simply upscaling stuff just to gain credit.

Hello , I am looking for an external unit reader which should be compatible with MakeMKV and any DVD, BR and UHD format, which sports both HDMI out and USB-C.
This would be a perfect unit also to play discs when attached to a TV. I don't need a burner. Impossible? I leave in Italy
