Re: How Do I Play Region B Blu-Ray Directly From Disc?
If you rip the whole disc to a folder backup, they won't be MKV files. They will be the exact same files (and file structure) that's on the disc, just decrypted. But isn't an ISO file? If yes, I just learned here that my Oppo player won't play ISO files, at least not without that Jailbreak firmware...

Re: How Do I Play Region B Blu-Ray Directly From Disc?
Well, I believe the manual says that my Oppo 203 can play MKV files, so I guess as long as those folders are shown on the player's OSD then I can probably access them.

Re: How Do I Play Region B Blu-Ray Directly From Disc?
Modern operating systems use the TRIM command with SSDs. I would not characterize storing a file on a SSD and then later deleting it as permanently losing free space. When I do get my ~ 12 TB server most of its drives will likely be SSDs. But I do have a 4TB external HDD. https://www.seagate.com/pr...

Re: How Do I Play Region B Blu-Ray Directly From Disc?
Don't play the disc, rip it. Your LG drive will thank you! Then you can watch the ripped file on your oppo or on your PC. If you must play it (not recommended), integrate VLC with MakeMKV in preferences so it can be used as the on-the-fly derypter. Thanks for your reply. But if I do rip it I would ...

How Do I Play Region B Blu-Ray Directly From Disc?
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Sorcerers-Blu-ray/360726/ Unfortunately for me, this very good a/v quality edition of an old favorite is Region B locked, so my Oppo 203 players won't read it. But after installing MakeMKV neither will VLC player. Here's what MakeMKV says about everything: Drive In...

Re: Will Many Internal BD Drive Scratch Your Discs?
Any PC optical drive can scratch a disc if the drive is slightly off balance or the disc is slighlty warped. It is not recommended to play a disc. Better off ripping it so you are only reading the disc once and you can watch the MKV file as much as you like. Yes, no doubt agent4797 and I are far fr...

Will Many Internal BD Drive Scratch Your Discs?
After downloading the trial version of JRiver I used it to play a favorite DVD in my collection. When done and I clicked eject I noticed two somewhat deep scratches on the disc surface. The disc still plays okay, but I do NOT want a repeat of this! But are scratched optical media by my LG WH16NS60 a...

Re: Japan's Surging Demand for BD Drives?
I was wondering why LG drives were so hard to find now even though Pioneer is the one who left the market. (As far as I know I haven't seen announcements that LG has left the PC burner market; I have seen announcements that they left the home theater BD player market.) Regardless, if there's demand...

Is makeMKV PowerDVD Essential-Friendly?
I was thrilled when I found that makeMKV could enable VLC to play BD movies. That player has excellent and easily accessible slow motion control, though its zoom control, which I find invaluable for managing aspect ratio content issues, is unbearably clunky. I didn’t install JRiver player, but I rea...

Re: Confusion about Pioneer BDR-X13E-S vs. BDR-X13E-X
I appreciated that DVD & BD ripping is largely what makes makemkv relevant, though I purchased the app out thanks last year when someone at avforum.com explained how to use it to allow BD movie playback on VLC and JRiver players. But the idea of paying someone or diying a massive server to store...

Re: Confusion about Pioneer BDR-X13E-S vs. BDR-X13E-X
The app allows you access the rest with the usual downside of not having the ability to watch DRM protected movies (Not its fault since I don't think there are any apps on Android that can bypass DRM discs other than the 2nd method). I successfully copied files from DVD-R, VCD and BD-R, but I have ...

Recommended Pioneer External BD Drives
Because support ended long ago for my lovely Pioneer LX500 BD player I bought a second one to share DVD/BD movie playing, thereby extending their lives. But to further do so I also want to start using an external BD drive to send the audio and video via my pc video card's HDMI to my TV and have DVD/...

Re: Confusion about Pioneer BDR-X13E-S vs. BDR-X13E-X
Direct UHD disc playback is not recommended for any drive as you will wear out your drive a lot faster. Because support ended long ago for my lovely Pioneer LX500 BD player I bought a second one to share DVD/BD movie playing, thereby extending their lives. But to do so further, can I USB connect an...
