If you rip the whole disc to a folder backup, they won't be MKV files. They will be the exact same files (and file structure) that's on the disc, just decrypted. But isn't an ISO file? Well, I believe the manual says that my Oppo 203 can play MKV files, so I guess as long as those folders are shown on the player's OSD then I can probably access them.

Modern operating systems use the TRIM command with SSDs. I would not characterize storing a file on a SSD and then later deleting it as permanently losing free space.
