Thanks for the suggestion, but I already bought an open-box Unitek Y-3324A on eBay for $15.

I realize now that the Unitek Y-1039 doesn't work for optical drives. Not sure where I got the impression it did or maybe things changed. Anyhow, I ordered a Unitek Y-3324A last night -- hopefully it works!
