Also, there's re-installing the latest download; it usually includes a key, which could have a later expire than the one in the beta thread. In this case, it looks like the OS X download has a key that expires Oct 10.

If that's what he wants, he should just take it out of beta. Letting the beta key lapse gives a picture of things not being kept up to date. If a piece of software isn't being actively maintained and kept up to date, that's generally not a good time to invest money in it.
