In regards to part 1 of my question, what is the "gold standard" method for sourcing and including subs in rips which have none?
I.e. what website do you source them from, what file type, how do you include them?

Ok i think i solved it. Heres what i did for future reference: I ripped title B1 from D1 and A1 from D2 I took the one and only subtitle track from both titles above. Optional: I then opened each file in subtitleEdit, loaded the subtitle track and ticked the "Show only forced subtitles" bo...

This is a known issue with that DVD, you need to fix the transparency or else the subtitles are invisible.
