Re: MakeMKV Rip 3D Blu-ray And See Extracted File Direct To

@Fortissimo: You should be able to play SBS and OU/TAB 3D files directly from a flash drive / external hard drive plugged into the USB port on your 3D TV. Plex WILL work with SBS/OU/TAB because the in that case there is a single video stream with normal sized frames and the TV is extracting and expa...

Re: Can't create Full SBS 3D mkv from my BluRay Avatar

Hi You cannot rip to SBS. MakeMKV does not re-encode video, it simply rips what's on the disk into an MKV file for you. When it comes to 3D BluRay, there are actually 2 video streams on the disc, one for each eye. MakeMKV can either rip those 2 video streams into one MKV file, which we then refer to...

Re: MakeMKV Rip 3D Blu-ray And See Extracted File Direct To

Hi I never claim to an expert on anything because there's always someone that knows more, somewhere :) But I have done an enormous amount of research on this particular topic, as you are now, so I happen to be up to speed on what's going on with this particular topic, mostly. From what I can tell, a...

Re: MakeMKV Rip 3D Blu-ray And See Extracted File Direct To

Hi If you use Plex you have no chance whatsoever of playing MVC MKVs (3D format taken raw from BluRay) as it stands. There are still very few things that can play MVC MKV properly. I've seen it work on a Raspberry Pi 2B running OpenElec Kodi. And I believe that there are a handful of media players w...

Re: 3D MVC Option

Yes, ok, I accept that, but really that's such a technicality and such a needless optimisation at the end of the day. And I still say that Half-SBS and Half-TAB will ultimately result in the exact same viewing experience anyway. But maybe that's just me and my eyes. It still doesn't change the fact ...

Re: 3D MVC Option

@sinious: The problem is that your argument, while very clear, just makes no logical or practical sense. WHY would you want to change the format ? The 3D format is purely a DELIVERY mechanism, it has NOTHING to do with how you view the content or how your eyes perceive what you are viewing. All of t...

Re: 3D MVC Option

The research that I've done into all of this recently revealed 2 things: 1. Some of the new TVs are actually reading header flags in the files now, particularly from MKV files, to determine the correct 3D mode automatically. This only works if the TV itself is decoding the file and can get access to...

Re: 3D MVC Option

@sinious: Let me see if I can clear up a few more things that I think you are still misunderstanding: 1. The reason BluRay and MVC can deliver full HD to each eye is because there are TWO (2) video streams in that case. There is a totally separate video stream for each eye ! That means TWICE the amo...

Re: 3D MVC Option

@sinious: You are confusing the source with the actual display of the 3D movie, the 2 things are related but not the same thing. 1. The terms we are throwing around, like SBS, TAB and Frame Sequential are the ENCODING methods used to package the 3D, they are not a display method. 2. A 3D TV only rea...

Re: 3D MVC Option

@sinious: 3D BluRay discs will trigger the correct frame sequential mode on the TV and you shouldn't have to manually intervene at all. It's the other modes that are the problem. As far as I know the EDID signalling will ONLY trigger the frame sequential mode, there is no support for the other half ...

Re: 3D MVC Option

I think what you're getting at is SBS/TAB already has the resolution reduced so it requires stretching/inventing pixels to fill the frame. In contrast, MVC is being reduced from full resolution to half before being displayed. I can assume that might be easier on a decoder and/or the pixels chosen t...

Re: 3D MVC Option

"And I'd still love to know how that YouTube video triggers 3D on a TV that I linked. Perhaps LG wired in something proprietary *shrug*." I did some more research on this quickly because it interests me too and it seems like certain TVs, that have decent native decoding capabilities, recog...

Re: 3D MVC Option

Am I wrong in thinking a passive TV is forced to use half resolution (TAB/SBS/Interleave) and active is the only true way to have full HD for both eyes? I just want to make sure the full hd 3d format in discussion here doesn't concern me. And I'd still love to know how that YouTube video triggers 3...

Re: 3D MVC Option

I just read fetef's post again and I think I misunderstood him the first time around. What he's actually saying is: 1. New Samsung TVs can play MVC 3D properly if it's in an M2TS container using onboard decoding. 2. You can send an MVC 3D movie in an M2TS container to the TV via Plex without affecti...

Re: 3D MVC Option

I've tested 2 films with both this MVC m2ts technique and half TAB, and the difference in quality is night and day. @fetef: IGNORE WHAT I WROTE BELOW, I MISUNDERSTOOD YOU (see my later post) I'm confused. How can you be playing an MVC m2ts using Half TAB mode on your TV ? MVC is NOT Half Tab, or ha...
