Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025

This is a great resource. Will Pioneer models ever be added to this?
Considering that half the post that starts this topic refers to Pioneer drives, what is your question?

Re: The Chosen Season 5 - Partly - Out of order

On a lot of (most) disks, MakeMKV will rip things in the order they appear in the directory of the disk, NOT by file name. If you look at the file name and put THOSE in order, you have a much better chance. But, this adds in the step of naming tracks manually. In my case, that was a given, because t...

Re: Flashing question

They didn't change the hardware, so it's telling you when it was built. Labels mean little.

The drive was actually built in 2013, per it's hardware.

Re: Man Of Steel 4k Error SCSI

Those errors often mean a hardware read error, at a position that is pretty far into the disk. It is possible that the drive shut down during the read, if it's USB-powered. You didn't say. Did the position of the failure always come up in the same place? That indicates a disk issue. If the failure m...

Drive platform: MT1939
Not UHD-capable. Was built a couple of years before UHD came about.

Re: Advice for new optical drive purchase

Your requirements are rather specific, and hard to complete. Released in 2023 or later can cover both LG and Pioneer drives. Able to burn 100GB disks means you want a Pioneer. LG drives aren't reliable writing above 50GB. Able to read 4K disks on a Windows PC will exclude the Pioneer unless you modi...

Re: Wonder Woman (2017)

Does it always fail at the same offset? That usually indicates a flaw in the disk, or a dirty spot. Variable locations in the same general area often point to the drive speeding up beyond its power capabilities and shutting down. Often that can be "fixed" by slowing how fast the system can...

Maybe if we had some information, we could help. But, just the error message means little. You didn't even provide a disk name.

Actually, the "official" crawlers are recognized, like Google Bot, Microsoft, etc. The others... not so much. Things like: Users browsing this forum: Bing [Bot], Woodstock and 160 guests Or, more generally: Registered users: Baidu [Spider], Bing [Bot], Google [Bot] But, there are currently...

Re: Forum offline?

And you can blame a lot of it on spam accounts trying to flood the forum. When there are allegedly 4,000-15,000 people online over the past 5 minutes, you can bet that at least a couple of them are spammers.

Re: Flashing hangs/does nothing.

Question... what did you flash your drive with?

1.17.7 and 1.18.2 are versions of MakeMKV, which should NOT be flashed onto a drive.

Re: Does zip hurt quality

ZIP does not throw data away. It is a "lossless" compression method.

Other compression methods cannot guarantee that. And ZIP is not the most efficient compression method of ways to compress cleanly.

Re: [BUG] Missing Chapters ripping Pokemon

A question - do the episodes share a common open/close? I ask because I have a similar series, where the open/close are common for a dozen or so episodes, and are NOT included in the individual episode files in the rip. The next partial season changed open/close, then there was a third set of open/c...

Re: Is it possible to extract subtitles only from 4k/standard blu ray disc?

Personally, I use mkvtoolnix for splitting files if I'm not going to encode them, but I use handbrake if I want them smaller. If disks don't have a lot of swapping around, handbrake is fine. But, what you've described is best handled with mkvtoolnix to break out the subtitle tracks, as well as splic...

Re: Is it possible to extract subtitles only from 4k/standard blu ray disc?

Yes. It's just the way the pieces are integrated into the disk, with everything part of a "single file"... although sometimes it's a collection of files. My copy of Riselmine is a real mess, which was easier to simply rip it as one very long episode, then use handbrake to break it into sep...
