Re: Does flashing enable WH14NS40 to play UHD/4K discs?

As far as ripping non-UHD disks, it should work fine. Normal Bluray is what that chip was designed for.

It will work with normal playing software and MakeMKV just fine. I used to have a couple of them before my equipment was stolen last year.

Your drive was built over two years before UHD support was added to LG drives, and your hardware will not support it (MT1939 processor).

Re: AACS 2.1 support

This disk isn't a "2.1" disk; it just hasn't got a key yet.

Did you email the .TGZ file to svq@makemkv.com so a key can be created? Are you downloading keys, for when it is (it may have already been created)?

Re: More Mb/s not always better quality ?

It depends on what the source is, and how it is compressed. Take a typical anime movie. There isn't a lot of detail in it so when it's put onto a UHD disk, it's almost not compressed. Take a simple movie with little action, and most of the change is when scenes change, so they can compress fairly we...

Re: LG BU40N scratching discs all of a sudden

This is a "dual power" USB cable, intended to be plugged into two separate USB power sources to get enough current to run the drive at full speed. A given USB port will provide up to 4.5 watts of power, most of the time. USB 3 can provide more, if it's actually provisioned that way. This d...

Re: More Mb/s not always better quality ?

Using MakeMKV, you will get the same resolution that was on the original disk; it's a copy of that file. Once you do things like compress it to different sizes, you are limited by what the software you use does. It is not likely to be better resolution, even if you increase the size, than the origin...

Re: Old activatiion key no good anymore?

The key doesn't change between versions. However, did you "copy and paste" it in to the dialog, or simply install the new version over the top of the old? Copy and paste doesn't always work, because of what gets copied in isn't always what you think it is. If your paste operation happens t...

Re: John Wick & John Wick: Chapter 2

As I recall from the various threads for both disks, the original Lionsgate sets varied with where you bought them. A Walmart disk would have a different file that was correct than one bought from Amazon. That calmed down over the years, though, as the disks stopped being "new", and as Mak...

Re: DVD Titles Defaulting to 30fps instead of 24fps?

At a guess, I'd say the Sony is adjusting the display rate to match what BD/UHD expects (24fps). A straight DVD player would output either 25/50 or 30/60 fps (full vs half frames), but if the player is a BD-capable unit, it may convert to what the TV/monitor expects. Where you will see it is in high...

Re: DVD Titles Defaulting to 30fps instead of 24fps?

DVDs are typically 25 or 30 full frames per second, depending on whether they're intended for European or US markets. Typically, they're also interlaced, so the effective frame rate is 50 or 60 half frames per second. What are you playing it back with that says 24fps for the data itself? A number of...

Re: Subtitles

The disk you're trying to rip probably does not have a "forced subtitle" TRACK. MakeMKV offered to create one if there were any subtitles in the normal subtitle track that have the "forced" flag set. If that track is empty (usually the case), it will be deleted as unneeded. Many ...

Re: Issue - BD+ FUTs to HandbrakeCLI using libmmbd

Have you tried running the rip and the encode separately? That way, you can see the errors that MakeMKV is encountering. It may just be a spot on the disk that can't be read until it is cleaned. Also, unless you are REALLY tight on disk space, it is much faster to extract the disk contents to MKV fi...

Re: MakeMKV fails to open new Blu-ray disc

You do not always see what keeps disks from ripping. I'm ripping dozens of disks per day right now, re-ripping my collection, and occasionally hit a disk that cannot be read. I clean it (currently using lens cleaning wipes from Walmart, but other plastic-safe cleaners can work), then put it back in ...

Re: Data Upload Question

As far as I've been able to determine, it is simply a dump of some information from the disk that can be used to calculate a key. It really doesn't help for newer disks (ones that require more data than can be included in a URL), so it can be ignored, if you're worried. In most cases, MakeMKV will h...
