Re: 1.16.4 win bug?

The most likely cause is that Windows is not letting the newly-installed program (even if you were running a previous version) have access to various devices. This is part of the Windows Ransomware protections; you have to specifically allow access to programs that have not been signed by Microsoft ...

Re: One key- multiple instances?

Key FAQ

Using one key to run 10 instances on 5 machines under your control, yes.

Using one key to run 2 instances under the control of 2 different people, not so much.

Re: Forced subtitles not found, merged with English sub?

Not really - those were not tagged as "forced" in the source, so MakeMKV did not separate them out.

It is possible to extract the English subtitle track and edit a copy of it to make your own, and merge that back in to the MKV, but that is a pain.

Re: Slow BD Playing and Ripping with two different drives

First guess is that your output is being speed-limited, and you get fast speeds while the (default) 512MB write buffer is not full. A quick way to test this is to make it smaller - Preferences->IO, set the read buffer to 64MB. Does the slowdown begin sooner? I notice this when I have a network issue...

Re: HELP NEEDED - How to RIP from files copied to hard drive

The objective of MakeMKV is to give you an "exact copy" of the video on the disk. If there are errors on the disk, then what is read is not what is supposed to be there. Player software that reads directly from disks assume there will be errors, and silently (as much as possible) skip over...

Re: Upscaling video quality

Remember that this forum isn't to support consumer BD or UHD players. MakeMKV is for ripping the video off of those disks to MKV files on your computer (or network), which then can be played by any MKV-aware player, from software on your PC to hardware video players like Roku and FireTV to even some...

Re: Upscaling video quality

Noticeable to WHO? Upscaling does not give you more detail. And you're not upscaling to "BD50" or "BD60", you're upscaling to 2160p if you're going for UHD. That means that every pixel of your 1080p source becomes 4 pixels on your 2160p display. Many 2160 displays will do this fo...

"Get around errors"?

Errors in reading the original are going to be errors in the copy, too.

Re: One file from 2 discs

MakeMKV isn't going to do this for you, but there are tools to do it. A search for "LOTR merge" will find a number of topics here and elsewhere about it, in fact. Standard tools involve mkvmerge from mkvtoolnix, which will allow you to append the MKV files. Main issue is with chapter marke...

Re: jackass the lost tapes DVD won't rip correctly

A variety of things are necessary to "fix" this problem: Access to what MakeMKV found when scanning the disk, at least part of which is available from a debug log, which you can turn on in Preferences->General. This we do not have, so we do not know if there were errors in the scan. Altern...

Re: Transferring license

If you do not have your original email from avangate or 2co, you can go to Help->Register in your existing MakeMKV install, and your current key should be in the registration box, so you can copy it down.

Re: Does MakeMKV bypass region locking?

Given that the drive is made by LG, there is a very good chance that MakeMKV can read out-of-region disks using it without any firmware changes. You will actually get a message from MakeMKV if it is a problem. MakeMKV will normally let you know if the drive is compatible with patching the firmware, ...

You actually knocked your post to invisibility by modifying it. It's still there, so I'm going to lock this one as a duplicate.

Also, considering there was a new version released this month, I can't see why you think it is "no longer in development".

Re: Does MakeMKV bypass region locking?

A lot depends on your drive. There are a few that will prevent MakeMKV from brute-forcing the region coding. Most are not a problem, and if you have a LibreDrive-capable drive, it's a non-issue. I have Asus and LG drives built over the last 12 years or so, and have not had an issue with region codin...
