Re: Is MakeMKV still functional
Mike has been issuing beta keys for well over 17 years. Will he continue? That's up to him. A lot of people seem to refuse to buy it, simply because "he'll come through with a key!!!", and complain bitterly if he doesn't. What I've often wondered was why people complain about the cost, whe...

Re: Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' when reading 4K UHD BluRay
"New disks" is relative. I've found it more frequent that disks that were released 6 months ago have acquired a film from their packaging that prevents "error free" reading, and it needs to be cleaned off.

Re: Is MakeMKV still functional
The key in the beta version expired November 30th. You need to install a new beta key (not issued yet), or set your system date back to when the key you have was valid to start the program. MakeMKV is still functional, with a current beta key, or with a registered key; I've been running it for hours...

Did you also submit a copy of this file to svq@makemkv.com, so that MakeMKV will be updated?

Re: Changing names with Expert mode enabled
If you've enabled Expert mode, you can change the name of the output file to whatever you want, as long as it ends with ".mkv". You can actually change that, too, but it makes life afterward more difficult when the operation system uses the extension to enable features. The "name"...

Re: Program reads data faster than it can write to disk
Disk writing speed is most important here. If you can read disks quickly, you have to be able to store what's read just as quickly... and a lot of times, your disk write speed isn't as fast as you're thinking it is. I typically would write to an 8-drive array, feeding it with 2 or 3 disks. When I wo...

Re: License lookup
To get your key from Mike, you'll have to send a message to support@makemkv.com with the email address you used when you originally paid... He can find it that way. If you have a copy running with your key already, you can copy/paste it into your new computer (assuming that's why you want it), as th...

Re: Unreadable DVDs?
You mention that they're DVDs... I've had (long ago!) some disks that were DVD/CD combos, where the outer portion was a CD, the inner portion a DVD. These wouldn't happen to be versions of these, would they? Can't say that I ever tried ripping them for video; they could be played/ripped as CDs, thou...

In the 15+ years that I've been around this forum, Mike has never offered any "special price" for registration.

Re: Star Wars 4Ks
When I last ripped Star Wars disks, I selected "all subtitles" to rip, because they weren't flagged correctly on my disks. I then would play the tracks, and select subtitle tracks to find the ones I wanted. Generally, I select "forced" and "everything" in English, but t...

Re: Star Wars 4Ks
Actually, alien languages are not always translated in Star Wars (or Star Trek, but that's a separate issue). Many times, it is only the mood of the speech that is important. If the meaning IS important, it will be displayed whether you have general subtitles turned on or not (it's a "forced su...

Re: "City on Fire" Arrow 4K UHD Dump Submitted
To be honest, if you do not understand how to "use this file" (which was not uploaded here), you're not the target of the file. The file in question is for those who can generate keys for disks, which would then be provided to users who are trying to rip said disks. If you're in the latter...

Re: BD-RE long recordings fail to export in MakeMKV: Possible 32-bit limitation
What are you using for the export? MakeMKV does a copy of the contents of the disk, so it should be what is being read. Minus any encryption, of course, but that's not something that would depend on 32- or 64-bit integers.

Re: Frankenstein's Bloody Terror Blu-ray rip issue
Question... Are you "Backing up" or "ripping files"? Backup rips the entire disk to a directory. It looks like you're trying to rip individual files, and you'll have to make sure you've enabled the rip of the 3D add-on by looking at the left-hand menu, and expand titles to see wh...

Re: Can you rename a movie file
Yes, when you're loading the file, you can click on the title you want to rip, and select the name to edit. This assumes you've turned on "Expert mode" in your configuration, and know that the name becomes a pull-down which lets you edit a lot more stuff. You can leave the Title the same, ...
