The MKV is a copy of what is on the disk. It isn't transcoded or anything similar.
Playing a DVD involves other software, which may change the video. If you play the MKV file through that software, at the same resolution, do you get the same quality?

Re: Are backups worth it in the long run?
With proper cooling and no overclocking, the CPU/GPU should last for a very, very long time. Mine are over a decade old, and I've run them for encodes for weeks at a time (the various Star Trek disks alone took almost two weeks to encode). But, if you aren't crunched for space, encoding isn't a big ...

Re: Blu-rays with extra video in m2ts files

Re: Are backups worth it in the long run?
The definitive answer is, "It Depends!" If you want to play the BD as distributed , yes, it is. If (like me) the only reason you bought the DVD/BD was to get the main program on it (don't care about "extras"), no. Especially if you're going to use something like handbrake to shri...

Re: Links in the application are http, not https?
Yes, it is probably an easy fix. One possibility, though, is that the author can't control what the user's system has installed on it. I have experience with some software that won't allow HTTPS connections to some domains, which is STUPID, but happens. If you try the links that use HTTP, the browse...

yes. The license is to YOU. You buy a Mac, you use your license. You buy a linux box, you use your license. You buy a Windows machine, you use your license.

You need to find out why this is failing. It could be a DNS issue, depending on your internet provider.Automatic HK downloading is disabled or failed.

And the right-click menu doesn't work for you? It already has "select/unselect all".

Not likely. Posting information about your question, like "what the logs said", probably would help.

Your firmware does not support UHD ripping. The drive itself may, with updated-to-after-UHD-was-introduced firmware.

So that we don't end up with 10,000 posts saying "X submitted" with no ID, what was the 4-character ID on the file you submitted?

The UJ240AS is never going to do UHD, as it was discontinued years before UHD was a thing. You are limited to DVD and (regular) BD reading, no matter what software version you have.

Mac usage will become more difficult soon
If you are running MakeMKV on a Mac, be prepared for the coming update to macOS Sequoia. Quoting from Apple : In macOS Sequoia, users will no longer be able to Control-click to override Gatekeeper when opening software that isn’t signed correctly or notarized. They’ll need to visit System Settings >...
