I am confused though, the date on the drive sticker is June 2023; did they ship drives with old firmware or is there some sort of secret flashing method...

I’ve managed to bypass Apple’s built in DVD player software by just closing it down and on VLC pressing open disc then play. So at the moment it’s just the HD and 4K Blu-Rays where it still gets the AACS error and cannot open the file.

As a newbie to the disc ripping hobby I’m actually quite excited to get my first drive to watch and rip content from the family’s movie collection including some Mexican movies/tv shows which are seldom found outside of the country.

Maybe they are busy... or there are other users in cue :-) They are definitely back in business. My guess is that they're currently working through their in-box. I just hope there’s enough drives to go around considering there’s likely a few months backlog and I’m happy the Asmcom is selling pionee...

It's good Asmcom is back and the website is up (albeit still being worked on) I have emailed him an order for two Pioneer drives that are UHD compatible. I have plans to use them to rip and play not just UHD disc but everything down to CD's.

You might be better off getting a Ugoos AM6B+. It plays pretty much everything. Streaming from NAS is the way to go, or use an attached hard drive.
