Not sure why it would not work for Handbrake for you - I'm on Sonoma 14.5 and using the latest versions of VLC and Handbrake. Recap: enable Terminal in App Management, and then run the the MakeMKV app (MakeMKV in Applications) and the executable (makemkv in the MacOS folder) as root, then go to App...

Running as root didn’t work for me to get handbrake working on Ventura 13.6.1 on an M2 Pro Mac Mini.
Any other suggestions?
