Just an update.

I have been ripping more DVDs with this new drive and I have not reached a problem like this again.

I am starting to think that disk is bad because when I tried to watch the ripped files they are stuttering a lot and the last 30% of the file does not play.

Hello again, I picked up that new drive, and makeMkv is running much faster. Some DVDs are ripping at 12x or so. So I guess it's just that some DVDs are slower then others and the drive won't ever reach it's advertised rates. However, a faster drive still works faster. Thanks for the help everyone Les

The DVD was "The Lost Room" and it was a US DVD disk.
