I know this is a really late response, but I was having a similar issue. When opening a blu ray disk (Harry Potter #2), it would hang at opening "Mosaic-1.png". But I noticed I had a java update available. So I updated Java, tried again and MakeMkv opened it successfully! IDK if this is a ...
