Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
Ah very interesting! Thank you for the additional information! I'm not sure what holds the fw the 128 pin chip or the other one you mentioned. Because I am crazy, I was considering maybe getting a bad drive off of ebay, taking that AR15F6 off and sending it to one of these places: https://diy-optics...

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
If you feel it is possible, why have you not done it? For the "average user", replacing the soldered-on chip to make it so that you can copy UHD disks seems excessive, but, if you're not an "average user", there is nothing preventing you from doing it. It would be nice to have s...

Since your drive is relatively new, it is unlikely that the optics of your drive are dirty, but they might be. If you're willing to take the risk, you could gently clean them with isopropyl alcohol and dry them with a clean microfiber towel. Well I guess it can't get any worse can it? I am super ca...

I'll preface this with I'm not trying to be argumentative at all here, but a few things: Brand new doesn't necessarily mean better quality. Also, the BU40N is recommended largely because of its availability. It's cheaper, too, and easier to update for MakeMKV. Furthermore, you're comparing a full-h...

Tried this as well, works sometimes but Im still looking to understand more about this drive. Seeing how well the Pioneer works im surprised people seem to be recommending this LG drive so much. Either I got a bad/used drive batch or this drive really is so weak thats its scared of its own shadow.

Need BU40 Info: Power On Metrics? Newest Build Date? Official Sellers?
Hey, I just bought a LG BU40N from Amazon. After Flashing the firmware I was able to rip 3-4 UHD discs, + 4-5 BR discs over 4 days (usually there is at least 20 min cool down period between rips). Now the drive is starting to throw read errors on brand new UHD and BR discs. No scratches or smudges a...

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
WAIT! Your telling me that you can flash the chip outside the drive with a flasher and then solder it back? "but how many people want to desolder/solder chips?" I just did fine pitch soldering of a N64 NDMI Kit and am planning on installing a Flash Upgrade for the Nintendo Zelda Game and W...

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
What is the technical reason the firmware can't be changed? Are they blowing eFuses or something? Can the Pre 2022 drives be downgraded? If so does that mean they made a hardware change post 2022 in addition to the more secure Firmware?

AACSv2 UHD DRM finally fully cracked?
I saw this talk at CCC this past December and it has finally been released to the public. It looks like the entire encryption scheme for UHD has been fully cracked and so I guess we don't need "firmwares" for specific drives anymore? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEBuiecLZGg mike admin h...
