Re: My favourite 5 video tools
Yep, single mode is what I do. I have 2 dvd-readers and 1 bluray reader. I consider 10 minutes not too bad for a single movie. Anyway, ripping the dvd's is no the bottleneck, organizing can be and editing after the rip certainly is. That is the reason I want to minimize the number of tools and only ...

Re: My favourite 5 video tools
99,9% of my videos are pre 2010, so HD (1280x720) at the most. That works fine over my wifi and there is still plenty of bandwidth left for other devices. But I must admit the situation could be quite different in case of higher resolution videos like 4K. In the latter case I would still have the op...

Re: My favourite 5 video tools
Do you actually use all that stuff? I have used MKVToolNix a few times, it’s ok, but I don’t need it for every dvd that I rip. Have used it in the past to split episodes that were in 1 video file, to merge videos that were in seperate video files and to change the name of a language track. I tried S...

My favourite 5 video tools
My current list of favorite video tools, in random order: 1. MakeMKV, for ripping dvd’s and blurays. 2. VLC Player, only the Windows version, for testing ripped video’s. 3. Kodi, on Android TV, for playing videos. 4. Video Download Helper, add-on for webbrowser. 5. IMDB.com, for information on many ...

Re: Where can I buy legitimate copies of tv shows?
I appreciate the effort, but I need so many more ... i.e. The Fall Guy, In the Heat of the Night, LA Law, Ironside, Thirtysomething, Dragnet, Fantasy Island, Love Boat, The Monkees, Dear John, etc., etc., ... And I generally buy only complete shows, because I know I want the complete thing eventuall...

Re: Where can I buy legitimate copies of tv shows?
Thx for the links, I wasn’t familiar with some of them. However, I actually meant tv shows, not movies. The majority of movies are not impossible to lay a hand on. TV-shows, like the ones I mentioned, but many more, are much more arduous. Many of the tv shows from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s are close...

Where can I buy legitimate copies of tv shows?
I wonder where I can purchase legitimate copies of tv shows. I am especially interested in American, British, Dutch and German retro tv shows, but it is really hard to find them once you’ve got the readily available ones. Examples of rare finds are Barnaby Jones, Marcus Welby M.D., Spin City, I, Spy...

MakeMKV never fails if disc is 100% clean
I have used MakeMKV for about a year or so and have ripped many hundreds of dvd discs and a few blurays. So far, MakeMKV has never failed me, if the discs are 100% clean and have no scratches. If a dvd disc is not sufficiently clean, a READ or MEDIUM error may ensue, but other debug messages are als...

This is my topic:
Can rewritable DVD's have copy-protection?
viewtopic.php?p=151942#p151942
where I wrongly talk about rewritable dvd’s. That should be recordable dvd’s.

Re: Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?
I posted a similiar topic on this forum regarding DVD-R’s of the Warner Archive Collection. In my case it was Amelia Earhart, Final Flight that I purchased through a partner of Amazon US. The artwork on the cover and the disc look ok, but I could do that myself with a color copier. MakeMKV and DVDFa...

Re: DVDFab/MacTheRipper Error
I reported the matter to the vendor but they didn’t respond. Amazon US refunded the purchase without further questions and without specifying the reason. End good, all good, I would say but I still don’t definitely know the box was genuine or not. If the industry is serious about discouraging illega...

Re: Can rewritable DVD's have copy-protection?
Curious - what makes a "DVD-R" "RE-writable"? It's officially "DVD-Recordable", so it doesn't have a re-writable quality. You’re right, I mixed things up. I wrote rewritable, but I meant recordable. My mistake. Still wondering whether these DVD-R’s (i.e. recordable DVD...

Like this? https://www.protect-software.com/en/solutions/video-dvd-copy-protection-overview/copy-protection-for-recordable-video-dvds-dvdr-dvd-r/ Used by 4 of the 6 leading Hollywood Studios as they claim. I just can’t imagine they sell their DVD-R’s without any copy protection. There would be no wa...

Re: Can rewritable DVD's have copy-protection?
So, the DVD-R’s from the Warner Archive Collection don’t have any copy protection [CSS, APS, UoP) because it is technically impossible or because the publisher doesn’t bother to protect them?
