Re: Problem scanning The Champions episode
I was able to solve this by making a backup (iso image) on hard disk and open the image manually. Using the title #2 as a search string did not solve the problem, but explicitly specifying the chapters (search string 2:1-11) did. The ripped episode now has a duration of 55 minutes and consists of 11...

Problem scanning The Champions episode
I have problems ripping the first episode (S01E01 ∙ The Beginning) of the tv series The Champions (1968-1969). The series has 30 episodes and all other 29 episodes rip fine. All episodes have a duration of around 48 minutes and consist of 10 chapters, except the first episode which has a duration of...

Re: DEBUG: Code 100809218
I have tried polishing the disc with car wax, because it had some hardly visible scratches.
The result is even worse, scratches abundant. It's a write-off, unfortunately.

DEBUG: Code 100809218
I tried to rip a box set containing 3 dvd discs. Two of them ripped fine, but one of them does not. After inserting the disc into the reader, I get the following error in the log: DEBUG: Code 100809218 at XLZy#@p!6m/^{4B`f):121263429 before being able to open the disc in Makemkv. In the information ...

Re: My favourite 5 video tools
Certainly a very impressive amount of data, but can you give me an example what to do with it? The people using MakeMKV might be very diverse. I am just an ordinary ripper with a large dvd collection that got tired of those cumbersome discs, prone to scratches and with a limited life span (as they s...

Re: My favourite 5 video tools
I can hardly believe that no one has mentioned MediaInfo , which would have to be one of the most useful programs out there when it comes to diagnosing problems. Excuse me for my ignorance, but where would you use that for? What kind of information can it provide on an mkv file that ctrl-j in vlc o...

Re: My favourite 5 video tools
Thank you for the link. It might come in handy some time. On rare occasions where IMDB does not have the information I need, I usually resort to Wikipedia. But it is always good to have an additional source available. I was a bit too optimistic about 10 minute ripping time. It can vary a lot. Some d...

Re: My favourite 5 video tools
Yep, single mode is what I do. I have 2 dvd-readers and 1 bluray reader. I consider 10 minutes not too bad for a single movie. Anyway, ripping the dvd's is not the bottleneck, organizing can be and editing after the rip certainly is. That is the reason I want to minimize the number of tools and only...

Re: My favourite 5 video tools
99% of my videos are pre 2010, so HD (1280x720) at the most. That works fine over my wifi and there is still plenty of bandwidth left for other devices. But I must admit the situation could be quite different in case of higher resolution videos like 4K. In the latter case I would still have the opti...

Re: My favourite 5 video tools
Do you actually use all that stuff? I have used MKVToolNix a few times, it’s ok, but I don’t need it for every dvd that I rip. Have used it in the past to split episodes that were in 1 video file, to merge videos that were in seperate video files and to change the name of a language track. I tried S...

My favourite 5 video tools
My current list of favorite video tools, in random order: 1. MakeMKV, for ripping dvd’s and blurays. 2. VLC Player, only the Windows version, for testing ripped video’s. 3. Kodi, on Android TV, for playing videos. 4. Video Download Helper, add-on for webbrowser. 5. IMDB.com, for information on many ...

Re: Where can I buy legitimate copies of tv shows?
I appreciate the effort, but I need so many more ... i.e. The Fall Guy, In the Heat of the Night, LA Law, Ironside, Thirtysomething, Dragnet, Fantasy Island, Love Boat, The Monkees, Dear John, etc., etc., ... And I generally buy only complete shows, because I know I want the complete thing eventuall...

Re: Where can I buy legitimate copies of tv shows?
Thx for the links, I wasn’t familiar with some of them. However, I actually meant tv shows, not movies. The majority of movies are not impossible to lay a hand on. TV-shows, like the ones I mentioned, but many more, are much more arduous. Many of the tv shows from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s are close...

Where can I buy legitimate copies of tv shows?
I wonder where I can purchase legitimate copies of tv shows. I am especially interested in American, British, Dutch and German retro tv shows, but it is really hard to find them once you’ve got the readily available ones. Examples of rare finds are Barnaby Jones, Marcus Welby M.D., Spin City, I, Spy...
