You can also validate a Media Key by checking whether MK (x) VID generates a VUK that can successfully decrypt the Unit Keys. This assumes that the TGZ contains a kv.dat to validate the Unit Keys against, of course.

Have you tried downloading the latest KEYDB.cfg file, copying it into MakeMKV's data directory (i.e. where MakeMKV also writes its TGZ dump files) and restarting MakeMKV?

You don't really have a choice. The discatt.dat file format is not documented, and AFAIK its contents are obtained from the disk using LibreDrive. Only MakeMKV can generate it.
