Hi, Looks like I need a new drive. My LG WH14NS40(July 2014) is a year or two too old(to capture UHD) So I am leaning toward a LG WH16NS40 because the form says it can work (firmware 1.02). I just bought a owc enclosure, so I want to buy an internal drive.
MOST drives that can do UHD will have that listed on the box. They just "require" a UHD-capable system (i.e., Intel system with Windows and proper software). The manufacturers really want to sell that capability.

You won't get any better performance out of a 2014 drive as far as UHD is concerned - the drive can't do it. You'll find that the controller chip doesn't handle UHD encoding.
