I have a Pioneer internal 5.25" BD-RW BDR-211M on old firmware 1.02 ID60. It works as-is with libredrive and makemkv. I know updating to the very newest firmware is irreversible and probably not a good idea. But are there any benefits to upgrading this drive from its current 1.02 firmware to a ...

It's most likely a BP60NB10 with SVC NB12 (check label underneath). Simply flash it with BP60NB10-NB12_1.02-MK firmware from the pack and you will be good to go. Thanks for the pointer. There is none. Verbatim uses the UD03 in their top model in the US and this drive can't read UHD.
Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I have ordered a 43888 from overseas. Hopefully it works, as returns will be tough.

What is the USA equivalent of Verbatim 43888 Slim USB Blu-ray slim external USB drive, which appears to be a model for Europe/Australia and other places?
