Re: How to downgrade to 1.17.7 so I can flash?
... it's in a format that requires compiling... The binary is not available in source form, it's only available in binary form. You download the bin and gunzip it (twice :-/) and run the appropriate binary. Or in your case, you need to add the binary to the image or make it available to the containe...

Re: Slowing down the DVD drive during reading process.
I had this problem with a few ~1996'ish Taiyo Yuden's that suffered horrible flaking so I put polyimide tape over them. It stopped the flaking although the discs still didn't read :-/.

Or spend $$$$ for micro-LED (or get a OLED). You can't really stop bleeding with backlights, it's just not financially viable yet and I'm sure even micro-LED has the problem to an extent. Bring plasma back...??? Plasma TV's were horrible for the environment during the boom era ~15 years ago because ...

Re: Beige dilemma
If you can use CAD at all to any extent you can have one 3D printed from JLCPCB. I use them for my SMD PCBs but I have used them twice for SLA printing and they were as fast as you can expect. The current maximum SLA size is 580*580*390mm, so technically you could have your entire case SLA printed. ...

The checksum routine is broken, it's double compressed, for example decompress with:

Re: Question regarding forced subtitles
a "secret" subtitle track No. If you open your resulting "movie.mkv" in MKVToolnix GUI you will see all subtitle tracks, in fact you can see all streams of all types. Your player will probably display the first subtitle/stream flagged as "default" and/or "forced&q...

Re: Question regarding forced subtitles
subtitles in his MP4... without hard-coding. If you're going to experiment you should try to add support for subtitles in your preferred player. No player supports the "DATUM" or possibly "tbox" (never used tbox myself) fields for Quicktime. Circa 2001 I put subtitles in Quickti...

Try the makemkvcon 1.17.6 binary and see if it still hangs: https://makemkv.com/download/old/makemk ... 7.6.tar.gz

Re: Laser Disc Digitizing
TLDR; don't bother. I have it and have used it on 1 disc, 10,000 Maniacs - MTV Unplugged: https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/08952/40183-6/10000-Maniacs:-MTV-Unplugged For the video, between the VHS copy I captured via composite (Laserdisc video is composite) and directly with Domesday, I can tell very ...

Re: sdftool not working - Ubuntu 24.04.4, makemkv 1.18.1
Not sure what the problem is but when it comes to flashing and Linux you do _NOT_ want a version of "makemkvcon" higher than 1.17.6 (https://makemkv.com/download/old/makemkv-bin-1.17.6.tar.gz). I don't know if that will help, but 1.17.6 is what you should be using. There's a long standing ...

Re: DVD shows “Read Error” at the same spot on multiple drives but plays fine on a standalone player – why?
You can use "ddrescue" or if you're not computer savvy and it's just a DVD you could use Padus Discjuggler (~20yrs old) which will fill missing sectors with null bytes (eg. \0). Of course as long as you can mount it you can run anything you want over the file system to attempt recovery. Li...

Scripting in BASH would be the easiest if that's all you want. Take a couple hours and read this 1 page and that's all you need: https://linuxconfig.org/bash-scripting-tutorial "makemkvcon" (not makemkv) is the program you'll use (makemkvcon is what the GUI "MakeMKV" uses).

Re: Full sized MiniDVD disc reader?
?? Are you saying that the disc isn't physically grabbed by the pickup? If so pop the lid off any internal 5.25 drive and push it in, remove the tray if you have to. There's also plenty of USB top loaders. If it does grab it and spin but the filesystem isn't recognized then it's the hardware or disc...

Re: Full sized MiniDVD disc reader?
It's a regular disc so if it doesn't play it's either the disc or your hardware. Back in circa 2000 these were common in children's software and public libraries hated them because they were confusing to remove from their cases and several would go as "unreturned" as the librarian would th...

Re: makemkv feature request slow hdd
The problem with a large buffer is that then you have to wait a long time after the reading is done... I'm not advocating anything about the slow disk message but if the optical drive keeps vying against the destination volume then you're putting needless wear on your optical drive. Also, OOM race ...
