Re: Pioneer firmware update February 2023
It's an even sillier decision on Pioneer's part given that the "official" UHD watching method is now pretty much dead in the water, since Cyberlink PowerDVD stopped supporting watching 4k discs as of September 2023 (itself a consequence of intel no longer supporting sgx). If they can no lo...

Re: Place internal 5,25 drive vertically
There used to be a whole load of PC cases that had vertical 5.25" optical drive bays, we had an HP one in our HTPC and dell was quite fond of them as well. So most 5.25" drives used to be manufactured with the expectation they could be mounted vertically. All the drives I have owned have h...

Re: ASUS BW-16D1HT freezing/pausing
Glad I could be of help. If the ASUS struggles to rip without errors (rare but has happened to me), slow down the read speed in MakeMkV. That fixed all but one disc I own that I ripped due to playback errors (before acquiring additional drives), but unless you happen to have the German UHD of Mockin...

Re: Disc Playback Issues on Verbatim Pioneer Driver
Are you using a laptop or a desktop to watch the films? I have always encountered issues watching blus and 4k discs on laptops, I don't know if they have a tendency to power down the USB connection or something which makes the disc freeze. If a desktop, is the external drive plugged straight into th...

Re: ASUS BW-16D1HT freezing/pausing
Hi sacdman I have the same drive as you with the same FW. I get these random freezes and disc locking up while watching films using a variety of players on my PC, although not on all discs. It is particularly around the 40 min, 1h 20, and 1h 40 marks, which tend to be where the layer crossovers are ...

Re: Thoughts on BU40N vs other drives?
I have an ASUS BW-16D1HT, a BU40N and a Pioneer 211EBK. For ripping the ASUS is fine 95% of the time, I have occasionally had discs that the ASUS cannot read at all or rips with errors. However it definitely struggles watching films on my PC, particularly around layer transitions, I would guess arou...

Re: Are Pioneer Drives not going to fit?
I have a Pioneer and Asus drive together in one case which has v similar dimensions to the Carbide. The Pioneer is about 2 cm longer than the Asus. The main thing I have noticed is that it is difficult to plug the 24 pin motherboard cable in if the optical drive is inserted just due to the chunky si...

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
The BDR-212-DBK has a plastic lens, and I have stress tested this model with 300 discs. This is a reason why I do not sell these drives. The failure rate is 12%, whereas the S12-XLT with a glass lens has less than a 1% failure rate. Please save your money. Asmcom Old post, but just wondering how ca...
