Re: MakeMKV ripping faster than the drive's specifications
I've already read this post before; it doesn't explain how some drives can read faster than their supposedly maximum speed according to their technical specifications. I can't find any officially published specs on your model but I'm guessing it's 8x burning speed to DVD+/-R and the full 16x speed ...

Re: Friends the complete series Dvd
What I am asking is does anyone already have the file orders for the DVD's specifically per the example on the bluray link. IE. S02E01-Friends_Season_2_Disc_1_t07.mkv 2.761.966.223 S02E02-Friends_Season_2_Disc_1_t14.mkv 2.826.561.183 S02E03-Friends_Season_2_Disc_1_t13.mkv 2.847.964.094 I think the ...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
Well I had a corrupt file again using the PCI USB card. By process of elimination I'd ruled out everything else too so I have no idea what the root cause is. Maybe the drivers for the PCI card AND the motherboard's USB ports are both bad. Their drivers were made around the same time nearly a decade ...

Re: Ripping old TV shows
[Deleted] Reason for deletion: I missed the bit where OP says they used VLC to "rip" the DVDs  What Radiocomms237 writes below seems correct. And screen recording software usually uses a very short keyframe interval which is consistent with the macroblocking in OPs screenshot and it...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
Got the unbranded PCI USB card off ebay which looks like this https://i.ibb.co/88B7dhN/71-Dnyw9-SP7-L-AC-SL1500.jpg https://www.amazon.com.au/Expansion-Express-Internal-Front-Linux/dp/B0B5M1J3LY They've scrubbed out the chip numbers for whatever reason but they are Renesas UPD720201 and UDP720210. T...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
It seems a lot of these third party PCIe USB expansion cards could be cheaply made junk prone to failure and corruption as well. Not sure I want to risk 2 years of archiving to some $30 PCB made to a price. Maybe I just have to get used to the idea of scanning everything with ffmpeg. Maybe that is ...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
not sure if it does that on dvds but you saw makemkv said something when it saw weird junk Makemkv never gives me any error messages. Anyway screw these USB ports I'm done wasting my life on them I'll get a PCI-E card with hopefully 8 working USB 3.2 ports which might be even faster than 3.0, now t...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
its all drive testing im that guy selling flashed and tested UHD drives Oh I see. Can I ask what software you use for testing? I was looking at this one called FreeFileSync to verify the actual contents of files are the same. I think first it checks to see if the number of bytes are the same, and i...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
Also I checked S.M.A.R.T attributes in CrystalDiskInfo many times and it never says anything is wrong. So the SSD is blissfully unaware that it's writing garbage to the cells, more reason to think it's happening downstream at the USB stage. I had seriously considered whether it's the USB to SATA con...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
i write 1.2TB over usb a day Hmm interesting. That is a lot of video and there is no way you could be watching 1.2TB a day so maybe you should scan the files for errors with ffmpeg afterwards. It's a similar situation where you buy a DVD box set and think you've got it safely but until you actual p...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
urf well you could try on usb 2 ports I had considered that but 20MB/sec is painful when you're doing hundreds of gigabytes. Instead I got this 3.5" SATA hotswap bay so that I can avoid USB altogether. https://a.l3n.co/i/lCZcjr.jpeg makemkv is unlikely to exceed the bandwidth unless you are us...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?
Had this issue rear its ugly head again, except this time on a different motherboard - Asus H87. This board is from the same generation of Intel chipset as my other Asrock Z97X board - 2014 Haswell socket. Here is a sample of the errors which occured today according to ffmpeg... Re: MakeMKV, just BUY it already.....
I'm in a similar position. We may get a new key shortly, we may not, but I get enough use of the software to make a purchase worthwhile. Someone - perhaps Mike? - has left a new BETA key under the tree, valid until the end of June 2024. I've noticed there's always a delay at the end of every 60 day...
