Re: DVDFab/MacTheRipper Error
Yep, all pertinent observations there RAHRL, especially that first point about getting a refund is a uniquely insidious problem. In my case I was lucky and got refunded without any resistance. I actually suspect the retailer might have made the copy based on some of the stuff in their FAQ (they spec...

Re: DVDFab/MacTheRipper Error
I don't think I've ever ended up with a counterfeit blu-ray when purchasing from a reputable outlet. I suppose BD-R's are too expensive to make profitable counterfeits. Heck, the bootleggers already think dual layer DVD discs are too expensive, there's no way they'd be able to afford BD-R's  O...

Re: DVDFab/MacTheRipper Error
I got the same DVDFab/MacTheRipper error on each of the discs when I tried to rip te dvd box "The Six Million Dollar Man" that I bought from (a partner of) Amazon US a few months ago. The counterfeit was very professionally made and I would not have taken a closer look at it, had MakeMKV ...

Re: Unable to rip DVDs from a specific distributor
Alright found a local copy of Foxcatcher region 2 for 8 bux, should be here in a week. I'll be trying it on 4 drives of different brands and form factors.

Re: Unable to rip DVDs from a specific distributor
It fails to read the sectors of the disc and never gets started to make the ISO. This happens on both copies of the disc. Hmm, not good. I suppose you could try using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to dump it to .vob files instead of .iso There is also DVD Shrink if you can be bothered trying it in reau...

Good to know, thanks.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 1:13 amNot an option as far as I am aware. No real need anyway, as all decent ripping software removes region coding.

Re: Unable to rip DVDs of different regions?
Every DVD drive I've ever had including more recently the 2 USB externals and 2 SATA internals (Asus and LiteOn) have firmware region lock, and you only get a limited number of region changes in the Windows device options, so changing the region from one DVD disc to another is not a practical option...

Re: Unable to rip DVDs from a specific distributor
I've attempted to dumb the disc using DVD decrypter, I've also tried the suggestions around walk/trim/full, etc. I've tried streaming via VLC and capturing that way. I've no idea what E-One do to the disc, but I've not discovered a way to rip them so far. What happens when you try to dump to .ISO f...

Re: Unable to rip DVDs from a specific distributor
Try dumping the disc to an .ISO image file with DVD Decrypter then open the .ISO file in MakeMKV.

Re: Stargate Atlantis Season 1 disc 1 voice volume is so low, other audio is normal.
MakeMKV doesn't alter any of the video or audio streams, it just moves them into an mkv file. So I'm quite confident MakeMKV is not the culprit. My guess at what is happening: if the audio track in question is Dolby AC3 then it might have DRC (dynamic range compression) metadata inside it which tell...

After it worked with 1.17.2 did you happen to try 1.17.6 again and did it still not work?

Re: Twilight Zone Complete Series DVD rips
Thanks for the tip as I'm about to purchase it - will report any issues with disc 2. From what you've described it sounds like a MakeMKV issue though.

Re: Does MakeMKV support CSS-MR discs?
This alone sounds to me like you got a bootleg, all my real Warner Archive discs have had high quality prints for the DVD case. Thanks for this piece of information. I think I'll message the seller and try to get a refund. I'm starting to think bootlegging might be more of an issue with DVD than I ...

Re: Green Wing (BBC comedy) PAL conversion issues
I'll give it a go ... I used to use mild dishwasher (Dawn) liquid soap and water. Cheers, Rob. If you're still having issues try isopropyl alcohol, it has magical properties where it just lifts and evaporates everything off the surface. Dish soap works ok but I reckon it leaves an invisible residue...
