mbryanr, I had the same issue with DVD. Stuck on 1x on WinXP 32 bit, but 7.8x on W7 64bit.

I just want to report, that this drive works :D
Did it became faster or slower? How much?
Unkown. But 3.6x was the fastest. (4x drive)
