Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

FWIW, when that happens to me, I just briefly turn on VPN and it seems to usually let the file download fast again, at least with JDownloader2 and a paid MEGA account. Cheers.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Hybrid simply means multiple sources were used, sometimes it has nothing to do with the video/DV layer, but rather audio tracks taken from other discs for example. Release notes help make it more clear.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Samsung is just stubborn because they invested so much in it and don't want to pay license fees to Dolby I'm guessing Right but that's what got me thinking - who's gonna pay to license Dolby Vision in the future when it's old tech, for backwards compatibility? Can't see people (comapnies) willing t...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

as i just said, no point watching static HDR10 when you can either generate or use metadata from web Just thinking here - what about in the future when HDR10/Dolby Vision is last-gen technology? You think maybe they'll keep Dolby Vision for backwards compatibility on new-gen TV sets? HDR10 only? HD...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Wow, so it does involve hex editing, that's what I was curious about, or if someone developed some tool open source or something. I really appreciate the detailed explanation sir. Thanks LV8HD. <3

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Hi everyone, some time ago I asked if anybody here knew how to change maxcll and maxfall values within the hevc stream itslef without the need to re-encode it. Well ,I've finally figured it out. Thus, a question comes to my mind: how important are these values in the actual playblack? I've seen man...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

@kazuma, simple answer is that true TV-led means basically passthrough essentially, and the TV does all the processing for Dolby Vision. Player-led or LLDV means the playback device does the processing and then sends the signal to the display. What's important to note is that TV-led is not always be...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Makes sense, I don't blame you either for leaving it in the past. Not to mention, a tool like that may have an unintended consequence of more "experts" and groups around the interwebz to modify retail values and spread misinformation about what they should or should not be.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Thanks for clarifying and confirming for Dune, RESET. I should also add that in some cases, the highest peak brightness found is actually in the studio logos or some 1-2 second blinding shot, and that is probably why studios don't always set maxCLL to match the brightest single frame in the entire m...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

In my opinion, this group only "seems" or "acts" like they know it all, and they tend to just write very long and nerdy release notes and talk about using "industry" tools etc, but I've seen mistakes by them with audio and Dolby Vision metadata before (even plain conver...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

I think the major selling point of DV previously or at the moment is L1 data compare to HDR10. Obviously that's always been the baseline marketing, the "dynamic" part of it. However, that's been there since the initial release and HDR10+ also has this, so what has changed, especially in c...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

yes. i know it can do stuff other than diming pictures. my question is why a 1000nits tv need to use trim that target to 100nits display? the trim is created by referencing 100nits target. it does not make sense to use it on a 1000nits tv. I hate to do this, but please see Interpolation . This is l...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Let's say one makes a content with 1000nits master display and does 100nits trim for SDR. When the content gets playback on a 1000nits display, it will need to use 100nits trim? This does not make sense to me. Re-read my previous post and the following section in Dolby docs. You're focusing too muc...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Yes, it is primarily intended for that according to Dolby documentation and spec, as colourist should be monitoring on a 100-nit SDR display when making that trim, however, it seems that if it's the only L2 level trim present, it's still used to adjust tonemapping on at least some TV models and play...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Not only should we ask Dolby, but also ask LG, Sony, etc. Current behaviors of playback devices and display devices does not make sense to me. Well, unless you are new to this DV thing, we found out quite early that DV is a total mess filled with bugs. yeah. I have been following the thread. maybe ...
