Re: Absolutely best drives
I'm hard pressed to believe a pioneer drive with read discs better than 4 (buffalo, lg, & Asus) drives I'm currently using. Unless it's a FW thing. These 4 drives below (with AIO FW recommended in 1st post of this thread) have exactly the same performance in my experience with ripping about 30 d...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2023
Ok, so I tried a little experiment. My drive (UH12NS40 flashed to WH16NS60) compared to the 3 drives below, all flashed to the recommended FW version stated on this thread sticky. (AIO fw pack). Buffalo BRUHD-PU3-BK ASUS BW-16D1HT LG BP60NB10 I ripped 16 of my discs. 8 succeeded and 8 failed. Those ...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2023
It seems no matter what I do (tried the all in one fw and the MK fw (japan) and the drive just continues to read:

Re: Can Stop Flashing Drives for 4k UHD
IS this still true? If so, why does all that other info re flashing exist if people can just buy these and call it a day?
-----I just read the other thread. Apparently drives manufactured after dec 2022 do not work. Makes sense since this post was made prior. Perhaps OP should revise?

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2023
So for the Buffalo BRUHD-PU3-BK, I used the SDF 1.3.5 flasher on "write", loaded HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin and hit start. Is that all there is to it? pretty much you might have to do enc depending how new your fw is think bu13 and up is not sure haven't seen those...

Re: What is the best optical drive in 2023?
OP, I buy and rip a ton of discs still. Probably around 50/month. You'll keep hearing that Pioneer drives are the best. Which is true to an extent. They're also the most expensive (if you want quality) and the slowest. Well, I have finally figured out the problem with my Pioneer S12UHD. Although it...

Re: Should I delete my DVD (VOB files) backups?
MKV is just a container. The actual video file is inside. DVDs are 480p and the actual video files on the disc if ripped raw are .vob files. Blu rays are 1080p and the raw files are .m2ts. MakeMKV will repackage those files into an MKV container (.mkv file). It does nothing to change the quality. It...

@Billy fyi the drive/firmware does NOT work with DVDFab 12.1.0.1. It is giving errors about "unfriendly firmware".

Re: UH12NS40
Ok, seems to have worked (i think), pic below. 2023-03-16 10_42_58-Window.jpg 1st disk ripped successfully, while the 2nd/3rd have reported read errors. They seem to be hardware related. Does it seem that way to you? I've been using the backup option. MakeMKV v1.17.3 win(x64-release) started Using L...

UH12NS40
I have seen a couple threads where people got this drive able to rip 4k discs. I'm super confused by this process. I downloaded the bh14ns40 patch tool exe from this thread https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19780 and used the included firmware bin file. It gave me the error at the end....
