Ok, so I tried a little experiment. My drive (UH12NS40 flashed to WH16NS60) compared to the 3 drives below, all flashed to the recommended FW version stated on this thread sticky. (AIO fw pack). It seems no matter what I do (tried the all in one fw and the MK fw (japan) and the drive just continues to read:

IS this still true? If so, why does all that other info re flashing exist if people can just buy these and call it a day?

MKV is just a container. The actual video file is inside. DVDs are 480p and the actual video files on the disc if ripped raw are .vob files. Blu rays are 1080p and the raw files are .m2ts. I have seen a couple threads where people got this drive able to rip 4k discs. I'm super confused by this process. I downloaded the bh14ns40 patch tool exe from this thread https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19780 and used the included firmware bin file. It gave me the error at the end....
