It is an amazing service the resellers are providing here selling the pioneer drives with older firmware. I imagine these drives must be extremely hard to acquire.

For dvd use a free ripper shrinker like dvd shrink

Many years ago I used to archive my bluray disks by burning copies and overcame the cinavia problem by using a bluray player that came out before cinvia was implemented as these pre-cinavia players don't have the required chip or whatever

Also afaik most current 4k players cannot play burnt UHD disks. And none will play triple layer UHD disks.
All will play regular Blu Ray burnt 25gb and 50 gb disks.

I believe the Panasonic ub900, not 9000, could play all burnt disks but it does not have Dolby vision

Even tho there may be a pause with current Pioneer drives with incompatible Uhd firmware, there are LG drives still available that can be modified to work with Uhd and get the job done, even if the LG are not 100% as good as pioneer, they are more than good enough. Makemkv works perfect with support...
