Concentric scratches
I picked up some crazy cheap DVDs at a garage sale and many of them have deep, concentric, scratches. These are the worst possible scratches, as they follow the data tracks. It's the most brutal and savage damage to a disc, short of breaking it into pieces. I don't care about many of them, as they a...

Re: Lessons learned from backing up hundreds of discs
I still use Pledge to clean discs. I've tried a couple of off brand clones and they seem just as good but a can goes a long way so cost is not a big deterrent. Does anyone have a better option for this? I also use Meguiar's PlastX as scratch remover. I don't polish to make it look like new, just eno...

Re: Lessons learned from backing up hundreds of discs
I've stayed away from Pioneer drives because LibreDrive firmware has been so long in coming. If it were here, I would jump.
Does everyone run the slim, external, Pioneer or is there a good 5.25 internal Pioneer drive for old guys like me who like their giant, old school, tower cases?

Re: Is there a way to prepend text to every file ripped from a disc?
I am circling back to say how much I appreciate the information in this thread and how much time it has saved me. With unique filenames, they can be added directory at a time to handbrake. Huge time saver. Also, don't forget to hit enter on the name field. If you don't, the updated name will not be ...

Re: Lessons learned from backing up hundreds of discs
Great thread and great info. Thank you. I have a pair of WH16NS40 drives, flashed to look like WH16NS60. Oh, boy, I'm going to get roasted for this post... :D My drives have gone into a state where they have required hard reset on a few occasions over the last year. It has happened 4 times that I am...

Re: What's wrong with this forum and the people?
I'm new. I've been here less than a year. And, I am slow. What is the problem if I ask a Q and don't follow up on replies until the next day? This is a sincere question. I've asked a few things and wish to be as respectful as I can be to those who help out. BTW, makemkv isn't the most important thin...

Is there a way to prepend text to every file ripped from a disc?
It would be very helpful if every file in a rip could be prepended with some unique text that I can set. I haven't found a way to do this but I suspect there is one. Any help would be appreciated! Example: B1_t00.mkv C1_t01.mkv C2_t02.mkv C3_t03.mkv C4_t04.mkv C5_t06.mkv D1_t05.mkv Would be great if...

Looking for advice. Is it helpful to have diverse drive models?
I have a pair of identical LG WH16NS40 drives. They work well with LibreDrive v1.02. Oddly, the second drive always worked better than the first drive until I cleaned the laser lens in each drive. Now they both work equally well. Still, there is the odd disk I cannot read. Would it be helpful to hav...

Re: WH16NS60 No Disc Error
I am running a pair of WH14NS40 drives and both have stopped detecting discs, occasionally. One has done it more than the other. The fix has been to shut off the PC. Rebooting will not correct this issue. I shut the power off for a few seconds and everything comes back properly. I do not believe thi...

Tom's aggregated read error tips
These are just a few ideas for dealing with read errors. I've mostly learned these from this forum so this is an aggregation, not original content. I'm posting it to help new users, like me, who might be frustrated by read errors. This is just a very minor extension of this thread: https://forum.mak...

Re: LG BH16NS40
I just bought the same drive and did some testing using Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. With HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin i get up around 15 read errors and the copy process is terminated. With HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00000-211711201943.bin it wor...

Re: Segmentation fault on Arch Linux
The glibc change has broken other applications (eg: EAC), as well as makemkv. I suspect glibc will revert back to previous behaviour in light of these problems. In the mean time, I am testing MakeMKV with Ubuntu Focal (all current updates applied) in a jailroot. Everything seems fine, except for the...
