Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I had same issue and after searching around I figured out that you can "disable" Jamless play.
I say in quotes because you need to cross flash ASUS BW-16D1HT firmware, then it will act like ASUS drive. Be warned, apparently there are some issues with cross ...

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but just reporting that I ran into same issue today with 3.10 MK firmware. I was trying to recover a scratched disc using ddrescue, during the second phase of scraping the data, the drive was spinning the disc really fast, then suddenly bang.
