Re: Forced subtitles
Okay, got it. Thanks! Why do you use subtitle edit? For example, do you convert your subtitles to another format? I understand all 4k Ultra HD Blu-rays have HDMV PGS subtitles. If so, then all my subtitles will be HDMV PSG format. Do you see any reason to convert them to another format and/or edit t...

Re: Forced subtitles
When using mkvtoolnix, are the subtitle tracks always displayed downward? Meaning whatever track #1 is in VLC, it will always be the top track listed in mkvtoolnix. Track #2 in VLC will always be the second from the top in mkvtoolnix and so on. (please see screenshot to avoid any confusion) https://...

Re: Forced subtitles
As for the SDH to non-SDH question; being that "SDH" has mutated into meaning "closed captions for non-OTA media without OTA limitations", then effectively "non-SDH" == "SDH". If you went through them by hand, it's easier to remove text than to add it, so SDH ...

Re: Forced subtitles
Yes, I agree. I prefer the non SDH main subtitles. The problem is that some of my mkv's only have one version of the main subtitles and they are the SDH version. Therefore, if I want all my main subs to be the same version, I will have to choose the SDH version for all my mkv's. Then again, I could ...

Re: VLC Alternative
Can someone who uses VLC for mkv files please let me know? I'm trying to understand if VLC is known for videos appearing darker than they should, or if it's just me.
Also, what are the top 3 mkv players for Windows?

Re: Forced subtitles
For discs with a forced sub track, is there any way to "embed" the forced sub track in the mkv like the others? Yes, but with HandBrake, for example. And I don't know if it would be worth it for you because HandBrake compresses files. Yeah, I don't want to compress my mkv's so I will forg...

Re: Forced subtitles
I've re-ripped about 10 discs so far and came across one that has a forced sub track. All the other discs that have forced subs have them "embedded" in the mkv. Meaning there is no forced sub track, and the forced subs appear in VLC without enabling any of the subtitle tracks. For discs wi...

Re: VLC Alternative
Thanks for the information. Thats what I thought, you need to actually take a picture of your display. I doubt I'm going to do all that but if I do, how do you get the same exact frame from a different player? For example, do you just go by the current time in the movie? This is subjective, but what...

Re: VLC Alternative
After you have to selected madVR as the video renderer, do you just use the defalut settings?
I want to compare the picture quality with VLC, how do you actually do this? I understand that a screenshot takes the digital image being sent to your display, not what your display actually looks like.

Re: Forced subtitles
Hey, I was out of town for a bit, but still moving forward with my 4k collection. So far, I've re-ripped (5) discs with all the English subtitles selected. I'm finding more discs having duplicate sub tracks like 2012. Example, track 1 is the same as track 3 and track 2 is the same as track 4. I have...

Re: MKV Files and HDR
When I had a display that did not support HDR, I could not enable HDR in Windows. Now, that I have a display that supports HDR, I can enable HDR in Windows.
Okay, I will try MPC-HC with madVR.
Thank you,

Re: VLC Alternative
Okay, thanks for the MPC-HC recommendation.
Can any VLC users comment on 4k mkv's appearing too dark? Is adjusting the brightness in VLC (provided screenshot) the best way to help with this apparent issue?

Re: Forced subtitles
Okay, thank you. I think I'm 97% there. Please confirm, for the main sub track that I want. (again, I will only have (1) main sub track for each mkv and don't want them to appear in VLC by default. I want to have to turn them on in VLC for them to appear) default track flag YES/NO track enabled flag...

Re: Forced subtitles
I managed to download an outdated version of mkvtoolnix from another website. It's really ridiculous that I can't even download the current version from the actual website. Moving on, I opened mkvtoolnix and see the (4) sub tracks in the mkv which I highlighted in the screenshot below. I managed to ...
