Re: 2K VS 4K Blu-rays

Okay, thank you for confirming that. I see that it can be difficult to rip a 4k with DV hdr and I'm not sure if any player even supports DV hdr. My question is, if I rip a 4k with DV, will makeMKV at least rip it with a basic hdr instead such as, HDR10? Or, do I miss out completely with hdr for 4k d...

Re: 2K VS 4K Blu-rays

I'm surprised no one know if VLC will play mlv files with HDR. I thought VLC was the most common player for mkv files. I will try to reach out to VLC.

If I can't get an answer from them, I will just go with 2K Blu-rays. Either way, I'm still supporting physical media and makeMKV.

Re: 2K VS 4K Blu-rays

On your end, (assuming you have a 4k display) the 4k screenshot looks better??? In my case, I will need a 16TB HDD instead of an 8TB SSD for my movie collection if I go with 4k Blu-rays. Plus, I will need to get another 1TB SSD for my documents, music and picture files. Were as with 2K Blu-ray, I co...

Re: 2K VS 4K Blu-rays

I was able to take a snapshot of the 2K and 4K content in MI Ghost Protocol for a direct comparison.
I can't really see a fair comparison without a 4K display, but I like the 2K better.

2K VS 4K Blu-rays

Hello, I have been having a lot of trouble deciding on which collection to go with. It seems like 4K has slightly better quality over 2K Blu-Rays mainly because of HDR. I just want to make sure that HDR is even supported with my process. If not, then it seems like it would make more sense to go with...

4K UHD Lacking Titles

Hello, I was just getting ready to purchase a 16TB drive and begin a 200 4K-UHD disc collection. However, after looking into the available selection of titles and doing some research, this doesn't even seem possible for me. Currently, there are only about 30 titles (at best) that appeal to me, and i...

Re: Average UHD File Size

I'm set on not having anything other than the OS/Programs on the (C:) boot drive. This way, whenever I need to reinstall Windows, all my stuff is already there.

I will think about putting my docs, music and pictures on a different drive than my UHD's.

Thanks for all your help,

Re: Average UHD File Size

As I understand it, the WD Gold and Ultrastar are the same drive internals these days, but marketed differently. The Gold is generally for regular people who want that class of drive. The Ultrastar comes in all kinds of various configurations to satisfy the needs of actual enterprise customers. I'd...

Why is that?
Of course, you can fill your drive up to the max, but it wouldn't be ideal. Logically, you would want some headroom as that goes pretty much with anything.

Re: Average UHD File Size

SAS & SATA refer to how the drive connects to the computer. All consumer oriented hard drives and computers use SATA. All my hard drives are SATA. You should use SATA. If you need SAS, you'll already know, as it is intended primarily for usage in a large array of drives in an enterprise. The on...

Re: Average UHD File Size

I typically buy the enterprise class drives, like Seagate Exos or WD Gold drives. They usually have a longer warranty though they can often be a bit louder in operation than more consumer oriented drives like the Seagate Barracuda or WD Blue. The drives oriented for NAS or Surveillance or for 'gami...

Re: Average UHD File Size

Okay, thanks for the tips. I like the idea of having one drive myself. Mainly because of I have no idea how to setup a RAID configuration. Are there any 16TB internal drives you can recommend? Should I look for a certain type? I'm not setting up any network, this drive will just be used on my deskto...

Re: Is ripping 4K Blu Rays Practical?

I would be looking for a UHD collection of no more than 200 titles. At 60GB each, that would put me right around 12TB and I understand you should never exceed 80% of the drive. I would also be putting my documents, my music and my picture files on the same drive which all amount to less than 1TB. In...
