Re: Beginner questions related to audio/video formats and WMP

~ it's not as easy as it used to be, just put the movie in the DVD drive and play. Actually... it is! Firstly, don't waste your time and money on Windows Media Player, just download VLC Media Player . It's free, and it's basically the goto player for most here. It will play most commonly found file...

Re: Where to buy Bluray discs? I've been getting a lot of fakes from Amazon

And optical discs are not a very reliable medium for long-term data storage, relatively speaking. The discs themselves degrade over time, plus, it only takes one little scuff mark and an entire disc worth of data may be corrupted (if you had, say, one giant file per disc). To my way of thinking, you...

Re: Confusion about audio/subtitle tracks

By way of a (frustrating) example, I just ripped the Blu-ray/UltraHD combo of Air Force One (1997)... The Blu-ray disc had the English dialogue only track first and the CC track second, whereas the UltraHD disc had the CC track first and the dialogue track second. And that was two discs of the same ...

Re: Confusion about audio/subtitle tracks

~ I also noticed that movies consistently have two English subtitles entries ~ One thing @dcoke22 forgot to mention is that there's quite often an English 'dialogue only' subtitle track, PLUS an English 'closed captions' track. The difference is that 'closed captions' are designed for the hearing i...

Re: Cutting out inappropriate scenes

I've never used Davinci Resolve myself, but most video editing suites I have used will allow "Lossless" export under certain circumstances. If available, that will export the file with no (or at least minimal) re-encoding, which will be a LOT quicker and far more likely to preserve all the...

Re: Any way to strip Dolby Vision and just mux HDR10?

I'm only just starting into the UltraHD discs in my library so this is all new to me, but it seems logical that you would follow @Rob9000's post above, except remux the EL (DV) stream back into the file instead of the BL (HDR) stream. The next question is, where do I get "Yusesope's tool"?...

Re: Hundreds of titles.

Unfortunately, that title doesn't seem to be on thediscdb.com (yet), but it's entry on dvdcompare.net mentions some easter eggs, if you hadn't found them already?!

Re: Cutting out inappropriate scenes

LOL, I'd say that is the polar-opposite of a "trivial question"! MakeMKV cannot do what you're after, it basically just copies entire files from one medium to another. The easiest way would be to rip the movie using MakeMKV, then watch it and note down the timecodes when the objectionable ...

Re: Hundreds of titles.

Ah yes, this is the true value of keeping notes! :D I text-map every disc I rip, it doesn't take that much extra time and it's paid off for me more times than I could count! Anyway, if you're talking about multiple fake playlists, then I very much doubt that the first-cab-off-the-rank will be the co...

Re: Can't get rid of the "Trivia" notes

Firstly, @Woodstock: 10K posts! Woohoo! https://i.postimg.cc/dtT1kBHG/Woodstock-10k.jpg @Napman: Did you happen to convert the file using Handbrake with an option set to "burn in" a subtitle track? Otherwise, MKVToolnix can be used to adjust the "Default" and "Forced" b...

Re: Jurassic World Dominion Which M2TS for which version

Yes, you're jumping in at the deep end if beginning with UltraHD! What I would suggest is to watch the disc on a regular household player and note down the runtimes of both the theatrical and extended editions (as well as any extras, if you want to rip them too), then open the disc in MakeMV and mat...

Re: Dune Part Two 2 - Ultra 4K - Which .mpls title?

~ It shows 17 chapters, segment count 1, segment map: 75 ~ If the playlist has only one segment, as you've described, then it can't be a case of 'fake playlists' assembled out-of-order, it must be 'cut' as was intended. Well, unless somebody has edited and added entire segments that are jumbled, bu...

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?

~ on blurays it has a hash table and checks the files are correct as it copies. not sure if it checks before or after it writes to disk ~ The hash table can only verify the integrity of the files on the optical disc itself. It cannot be used to check for file copy errors once the content has been d...

Re: Cost to buy physical DVD/BD is skyrocketing?

Lately I've noticed that the releasing companies are only doing very limited runs of new titles ("only 1000 copies", or "only 1500 available"), which is pretty pathetic in a global market. And as above, re-sellers are buying-out the available supplies and then 'naming their price...

Re: Questions on Forced Subtitles

~ With the full back up (which I covert to an ISO using ImgBurn) I can easily play the movie on my PC using VLC ~ You don't need to create an ISO to play the 'virtual' disc (including menus) in VLC MP, a MakeMKV backup is able to do the same thing. Just open VLC, click on "Media > Open Disc......
