I have successfully created mkv files from numerous discs, but I have found a TV series DVD set that makemkv (ver 1.17.2) has a problem with. I had the same problem, but found a way around it for the discs without hard read errors (i.e., uncorrectable errors). Takes some extra time and effort, but it was simple and effective.
