Re: Should you upgrade your optical drive or not?
Consider yourself lucky that you didn't get the 16NS60. That drive was doing great for me but only lasted ~8 months. Probably ripped between 100 and 200 discs total since I have 4 working drives installed at all times. I disassembled it and cleaned the laser lenses but it still won't register a dis...

Re: Should you upgrade your optical drive or not?
Hello dear MakeMKV community, I'm relatively new to ripping bluerays/UHDs but I'm a huge fan of MakeMKV. When I realized that my old drive can only rip Bluerays but no UHD Bluerays, I had to get a new one. After poking around the forums and finding the guide for the UHDs, I reluctantly settled on t...

Re: 800.mpls vs 801.mpls
Generally speaking (and I do not recall a single exception to this), I always rip the lowest/even numbered track 0000.mpls or 0100.mpls, 0800.mpls, etc. The obvious exception would be subtitle language or fake playlists. I am English speaking and prefer Spanish subs for my girlfriend, so the even ti...

Re: What is the best optical drive in 2023?
We advise you to use the UHD guide by Billycar11. https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19634 I am running 1.02 with all three of my LGs (BP60 included). Four if you include my dead one. 1.01 on my Pioneer because it came with that FW. And my ASUS (x2) are on 3.10. You have to remember pe...

Re: What is the best optical drive in 2023?
I didn't keep a log. I am just an end user, so why would I?? Could you please PM me the 100 discs that you stress tested my drive with? I am fairly skeptical there were many regular 1080p BD discs used!

Re: What is the best optical drive in 2023?
This is interesting. My 2 BD drives are fine for BD rips. But my LG UH12NS40 flashed to WH16NS60 works about 50% of the time for UHD rips. It usually spits out "logical unit not ready, timeouts, and read errors. I'm looking to get a better quality drive. Out of the 3 units below, can anyone re...

Re: What is the best optical drive in 2023?
OP, I buy and rip a ton of discs still. Probably around 50/month. You'll keep hearing that Pioneer drives are the best. Which is true to an extent. They're also the most expensive (if you want quality) and the slowest. Well, I have finally figured out the problem with my Pioneer S12UHD. Although it...

Re: Bluray RIP Failure on a Single Episode
Yes, grab a new disc. It's most likely a defective disc/master. This happens a fair amount if you buy/rip a lot of TV shows.

Re: help needed with Resident Evil The Complete Collection US
I generally pick the lowest numbered mpls when all other things match up. Like reasonable number of chapters for the movie's length, correct audio tracks, subtitles, etc. I have yet to run into a problem using this methodology. I could have been super lucky thus far but I doubt it. As OP mentioned, ...

Re: The Walking Dead Season 6
Could possibly have been an authoring or master issue affecting some of these discs. I ripped mine quite a while ago and even watched into S8 thus far without any issues.

Re: Fastest drive for ripping large collection
If you can't do multiple drives and are limited to only one, the best I own is an ASUS BW-16D1HT. This drive reads just about anything/everything and is as fast as any other drive on the market. It has become my favorite drive. It reads discs that my Pioneer BDR-S12UST fails on.

Re: No Forced Subtitles on The Bourne Identity, Captain America (Winter Soldier, Civil War)
Good, I see that you solved the issue. Yes, the only sure way is to rip every English sub track and forced sub track available. There are rarely more than 3 though. Regular English sub, possibly an SDH and a forced. You can always remove the ones you do not want later via MKVToolNix. It will not deg...

Re: No Forced Subtitles on The Bourne Identity, Captain America (Winter Soldier, Civil War)
For Capt America, the forced subs were down a little ways in the sub listings. It's been a while since I ripped mine but they showed up after my Spanish subs when viewed in Media Info. Mine are all 4k releases.

Re: Ripping a music bluray
From the way you worded your post, I'll assume it's a bluray audio disc. You should make an unencrypted backup with MakeMKV and then use a ripper like DVD Audio Extractor (30 day trial but you can repeatedly 'try' the program for free) to actually do the ripping from your unencrypted backup. They'll...
