You can pre-rip the DVD in question with dd if=/dev/sr0 bs=2048 conv=noerror > Desktop/blah.iso

The conv=noerror tells dd to ignore errors.

And then mount this image for MakeMKVing. I don't know if all the errors in the image will break the MakeMKV part of the ...

Just a very minor bug report.

I buy a lot of foreign language TV-series DVDs and then rip them.

Typically on a DVD is a bunch of episodes (/N/ titles), where each title has Mpeg2 Video, and "[x] Subtitles English" already selected. But the only audio track "DD Stereo Japanese" is not ...

Also would like to see this feature in MakeMKV, but until that I wrote a little script to do it for me.

I'm probably being a pedant, but MKV is a container format, not a CODEC.

MakeMKV takes whatever format the disc is in, and re-packs it into a MKV container, so say you are ripping blue-ray - your MKV would be packed with a MP4/h264 video, or perhaps VC-1. The subtitles are also packed into the MKV ...

When the 'tree" representing the content of the disk is shown - after you scan the disk. but before you start the rip.
Drill down through the tree, and you will see the subtitle tracks checked for inclusion. Mine defaults to selecting english.
